Teach For America - 2019 Corps

Hi All,

I’m starting this thread for those who are applying to the 2019 corps, or for those who are interested in applying.

I’m applying for the last early application deadline (April 13, 2018).

Interview notifications will be sent out on April 20, 2018. Is there any advantage to submitting your application prior to the April 13, 2018 deadline?

Hi @bethhhh92! I applied 2019 Early Application, too. I applied in the second round with the February deadline and just had my interview yesterday! There isn’t an advantage to submitting your application before the deadline, but I would recommend doing so. I know that I kept tweaking my essay responses and it just made me more nervous. Make sure it includes everything you want and need, and submit it. I highly recommend not waiting until the actual deadline date because you never know what may come up that day that could keep you from submitting your app on time.

I’m currently playing the waiting game to hear back on my acceptance. I’m sure you’ll do great, but let me know if you have any questions about the application!

hey @HopingForTFA2019 I think I am on the same timeline as you for admissions decision, has anything chnaged on your portal? I noticed my timeline that is usually at the top dissapeared, I hope that its not a sign of bad news…

Hi @owlgirlphilly! My timeline is also missing. Generally, from everything I have read in the 2018 forum, there appears to be a correlation between the absent timeline and acceptance. Most individuals whose timeline did not disappear or did disappear, but then reappeared, seem to not get in. But, I have also seen people with a timeline get in…I think I’ve been stalking these forums just a litttttle too much! LOL

LOL @HopingForTFA2019 me too. I’ve never been more anxious for a monday in my life

@owlgirlphilly I think I’m a bit more excited than I am nervous! Have you already looked through all the regions to see where you would like to go, if accepted?

Yes a little bit, part of me would like to stay in the Philadelphia region, but I am also considering DC Baltimore NJ, then the other half of me is like okay I’m going to Hawaii lol, what about you? I’m also a little confused about when we would find out our region because we are early admissions

@owlgirlphilly I’m kind of all over the place with mine! I don’t want to get my heart set on somewhere if I don’t qualify for that region. To answer your confusion, those who are accepted also receive a list of regions they qualify to teach in as well as subjects based on your transcripts. Your list is made from those choices.

OHHH okay I understand, I guess I should just not make up my mind about anywhere just yet then

@owlgirlphilly Yeah, unfortunately we are kept in the dark a bit. If accepted, EA find out their region, but not the subject or grade until Fall.

@HopingForTFA2019 I hope things work out in your favor tomorrow! keep me posted

Hey, @owlgirlphilly! Same to you! Look forward to hearing your results!

I got in!!!

Hey! Just applied to TFA to be part of the 2019 corps! Supposed to hear back this upcoming Friday

Hoping if I join to teach French (funny as it’s a subject a lot of people are told they are qualified to teach and then say they’ve never studied it, meanwhile I’m a French major)

I got in as well! Now the wait is on for subject assignment !!

@owlgirlphilly That’s great to hear!! I definitely changed my regions again at like 10:15 last night, but I’m feeling really good about it! What regions did you list?

@QueerUniDeer Good luck!! I was more nervous waiting to hear if I got an interview than I was waiting to hear back on my acceptance LOL! If you have any interview questions, let me know! I did my lesson plan on Italian cognates and it was a huge success, so doing something in French might really set you apart from the crowd.

Hi everyone!
I applied on April 13th. My heart is racing waiting to hear back on Friday!!

@sswhite96 Good luck! Looking forward to hearing everyone’s verdict on Friday!
