@Rcb2019 Sounds like you had a successful interview! I was placed in high school science (they can’t promise a specific subject until they can see what contracts are available in the spring), but I am also hoping for Biology! I also live just outside of St. Louis right now, so if you have any questions if/when you get placed there, feel free to ask!
@HopingForTFA2019 Thanks so much! My hometown is actually St. Louis City, but I’m in Iowa for school right now and hoping to return! So if you ever want to chat about St. Louis then you should definitely message me
Has anyone who’s already been accepted and placed heard anything yet about the hiring process and praxis exams?
@BeTHEChange93 All of that information comes from your specific region, so it will vary from person to person. My region has a hiring fair in April and then sets up additional interviews during the on boarding process in May. For my region we don’t take the Praxis, but the state test we have to take should be taken as soon as possible. The state requires a 30 day waiting period between testing if you fail the first time, so getting started early is the best. But, you’ll have to wait until you’re assigned somewhere before you find out what tests you’ll have to take. For example, in my region we don’t have to take the Pedagogy exam, but only the content exam. Your region will reach out to you once you’re placed somewhere with more information!
@BeTHEChange93 I got placed in OKC and haven’t received that information from my regional team yet.
@elydawn19 I’d love to teach middle school English in Houston. However, when I looked, only general studies is offered outside of math and science. I’m curious to know what exactly general studies entails.
In regards to my interview, I think my lesson went very well. I actually finished a little early and was able to get in my lesson, classroom and individual practice and to ask if anyone had any question at the end. I believe that everyone else did a good job as well. I engaged in the group activity because interestingly, the scenario is actually one being faced my one of my former schools. The part I second guess myself on is the interview but that is because my interviewer typed during it. But that is a problem we all faced so hopefully all goes well.
Just curious but did everyone qualify to teach in most, if not every, region? I qualified for all but Buffalo, NY. I wonder what the criteria is.
Thats exactly how I felt about the 1 on 1 interview. I couldn’t figure out if that went well at all! I guess the typing is what threw me off. My interviewer did say to me at the end that it was a pleasure to have met me and that she hopes we cross paths again soon. I’m probably looking too much into it! I really want to teach SPED, ESL, or Spanish. I have special circumstances in NYC & I’m hoping they grant this if I’m accepted.
@morenarocx I got into Buffalo and I can confirm that Buffalo is a special case.
They can only accept folks who qualify for Bilingual Education or ESL! They say on the site, Special Education, also but from what I’ve heard in the region, the highest needs are ESL and Bilingual, which means knowing another language or studying another language.
From what I’ve read in previous posts, TFA fixed the whole timeline disappearing glitch. I interviewed on Tuesday, and I’m freaking out since my timeline hasn’t disappeared! I also tried pulling up the coding as others suggested, and I can see the name of my interviewer which shows updated, and now finaleval. I wonder if that means they recommended me?
Thanks for all of the useful information!
Does anyone know where I can access the 2019 regional excel spreadsheet? I found one from previous years but have been unable to find a more updated one.
@elydawn19 You won’t be able to find anything.
Assuming it’ll be a repeat of the first round, your timeline will disappear around 4:00 PM EST on decision day and will be replaced with your decision. Trust me, I checked everywhere.
For those accepted, how are you studying for your certification exams? I’m taking the PRAXIS next month and slightly freaking out! Any tips would help.
Has anyone who applied this round already apply for transitional funding? My documents have all been verified, but my application says it still hasn’t been reviewed. Also, if they have verified all of my documents, could they potentially reach out to me requesting additional documentation?
How is everyone who applied for this deadline reigning in their anxiety about the final decision? I don’t know what to expect!
Same! I am sooo anxious about decision day, and keep thinking about receiving the email from TFA. I’ve been working every day just to keep my mind off of what’s to come. I’m not sure how I will react to either decision (accepted or rejected).
@Rcb2019 basically just been using this forum, reading any blogs I can find online about TFA, watching a ton of teacher youtube channels, looking at TFA’s and other teacher’s instagrams, downloading audiobooks on education. I’m hoping for the best. I really want this and am trying to visualize myself as an educator
Is anyone else’s Step 3 not closed yet?
Nope! Mine is not yet closed. I filled out everything except for the summer training conflict section. How about yours?
Anyone’s transitional funding change? I still have no notes under my documents, just that they’re verified. Hmm…
