Teach For America - 2019 Corps

Hi thanks for your response! I know a little bit about the area but that info was helpful.

anyone applying through the last cycle?? i had my interview March 27th and the wait is killing me!

I’m also waiting and its tough! I have a lot of stuff I need to finish up since its the end of the semester but I keep getting distracted by overthinking everything I did and said in my interview

I had my interview on March 28. Wait is also killing me. Has anyone applied for transitional funding?

Also, one of my items for Step 2 is unchecked. Anyone else have this?

I applied last cycle and the wait is killing me as well. Hoping to land either a High School or Middle School Social Studies/History or English job considering I just received a MA in History, and have experience teaching that as well as English abroad as I have a TEFl certificate. My concentration in History was African American history and Southern history with a minor historical focus in Soviet history and a minor in African American studies so I’m hoping I land a teaching job somewhere down South.

I chose 21 regions so hoping my flexibility gives me a better chance at what I want, which I mentioned as a note in the special consideration section. I listed Eastern North Carolina, Alabama, Nashville, Greater Delta and New Orleans in my top 5 so hoping one of those can place me.

Also applied last cycle and it’s killing me. The more I overthink it, the more I want an offer! I listed 15 regions with the first half being all west coast, but given that it’s the last wave of acceptances I’m not sure if I’ll even get placed there. Only 4 people showed up to my interview out of 6 that were supposed to. Anyone know how many people typically get accepted out of a final interview group?

@Freeberty I’m also hoping for Secondary Social Studies or English since I’m finishing up my MA in History with a concentration in African American history! Seems like we have a lot in common. Nashville, Southwest Ohio, Metro Atlanta, and Orlando are my top choices. Fingers crossed for everyone. Just over a week until we find out!

@FutureTeacher08 The wait is really pure torture. I hate how we had to list other subjects that, while we may be qualified to teach them in certain states, our academic records and interests don’t really align at all. I put down High School general science as a high priority only because I needed to list 5 subjects as high preference, but besides a couple college Nutrition classes, I have not taken science courses since High School back in 2008. I never took physics in my life and yet am somehow “qualified” to teach it in Southern states like Mississippi.

Would suck to have to turn down an offer in science if they extend it to me simply because I feel, with it being my weakest subject besides Math, I would fail my students and not give them the education they deserve. I wish the program was more straightforward as I have been told there are History and English openings and yet, many people obviously end up misplaced. Some people have reported that the program does not listen to their preferencing and they end up wrongly placed, which is a huge concern seeing we are the last group.

Luckily I have a decent job now to fall back on but really hoping for a English placement at a minimum.

I thought we were only able to pick 10 regions! I would’ve picked more :frowning:

I applied for the last cycle as well, had my interview on the 27th. I picked 19 or 20 regions hoping it would increase my chances. The wait is killing me too, I have applied for transitional funding too. @joseutheog my “interview day details” from step 2 is unchecked, I don’t think it means anything.

any word on if there’s a way to find out early through the page source code? they seemed to have redone the entire website and after stalking the source code for days I haven’t found anything haha im losing my mind with this wait

also, did yalls recruiters reach out to set up a meeting for the day after the 15th when we find out?

@EmTFA2019 I know people said they tried to eliminate any way for us to get clues before decision day, but have also been combing the source code! I don’t think I’ve found anything useful. However, there are new lines in my code for “Decision Personal Info,” “Decision Commitment Statement,” “Decision Accept Survey,” etc. I’m not sure if that means anything or if it’s just something everyone has since they’ve updated the applicant portal after the interview.

I have been scouring for different source codes too. I do have the “Decision Accept Survey” and the others that @Futureteachers08 had said, those three are in “Overview” where it says state. I don’t know what the page looked like before the interview as I didn’t know about source codes until after I had it from this forum. @EmTFA2019 my recruiter didn’t send me a meeting for after decision day, but invited me to a couple of virtual meetings on leadership and TFA alumni.

i feel like that’s a good sign! my recruiter didn’t mention any virtual meetings on leadership or alumni so hopefully it doesn’t mean anything but i wouldn’t be surprised if it does haha

So would that mean our recruiters know whether or not we’ve been accepted? Do you think they would? Or do you think they contribute to any part of the application process?

@shopaholic97 I know in past years recruiters also submit a recommendation form on whether they feel we are a good match for the corps but that’s never been outright confirmed. I always kind of assumed that they also play a role in the application process, especially because i find my source code “update by” my recruiter

@EmTFA2019 your source code says it was updated by your recruiter? I checked mine and it was updated by the person who interviewed me. I don’t know if I should be worried or not or if it even makes a difference.

Mine was also updated by the person who interviewed me!
