I asked my teacher for a recommendation near the end of the school year, and she is planning on mailing it to colleges from her home.

Is it alright (that she is mailing it from home) ethics-wise and in terms of any unwanted impact this could have on the application?

I assume this does not matter since her mailing the rec from home only says that she cares about her student and is willing to go out of her way to help him.

It depends on the college and their preferences for how they wish to receive the teacher recommendation(s). Some colleges don't care, some will want teacher recs to be bundled with the guidance counselor recommendation/evaluation, and some want recommendations to be directed to them with specific information (i.e., student's assigned ID# or their Social Security Number). Many colleges want recommendations to follow a given format and/or address certain specific questions.

Each college's application form and/or the Common Application will give you more specific information on the process to follow.

Check out the "Common App Teacher Evaluation Form." (It's on commonapp.org) If your school doesn't use common app, it likely has something like it.
You fill out the student part and then give it to the teacher along with stamped envelopes addressed to the colleges you want her to send them to.
She shouldn't have to fill out envelopes or pay for postage and can mail them from anywhere she wants.
