If my teachers prefer to mail them in an envelope themselves rather than do it online is it ok for me to send my recs now even if my common app + supplements wont be done for another month or so?

Will colleges hold on to my teacher recs and then wait for the app to be submitted?

And should i write "teacher rec" on the outside of the envelope? or will they just open them and read them and set them aside for later?

I read somewhere that the schools will create a folder for you if they receive a recommendation before the app. However, i am not completely sure and would like clarification as well.

it is fine to send them now. Be sure your full name, high school and date of birth are on the letter, and maybe your home address also if you have a common name or are in a big high school. address it to the appropriate admissions office. check websites for correct mailing info. No need to write teacher rec on the outside.

ok thanks. and then what happens with these “teacher evaluations” im reading about on the common app site? I still have to invite my teachers online, one of them just has to do the teacher forms?

if you are applying to common app schools you need to first create your common app account, add schools to it, then assuming your school does not use naviance, you will go to the school forms section of the common app site and add your teachers. Then you will invite them to recommend you for the schools you have selected. You do all this online. the common app will email your teachers and invite them to submit a recommendation. they will then have the choice of submitting online or on paper. either way they will use the common app form. if you know they are going to submit on paper, you can help by printing out the forms from the common app website and supplying your teachers with stamped addressed envelopes. you can and should do all of this now, even if that is before you finish and submit the rest of your applications.
