Teacher Reccomendations- does it have to be from one humanities and one stem?

For my teacher recs on the common app, I selected my foreign language teacher and my arts teacher. I feel like those two teachers know me best and can therefore write the best rec letters. Is it going to reflect badly on me that I did not choose "core" subject teachers?

I don’t believe it will reflect badly. Quality over quantity, when it comes to letter of recs. No one says it has be from certain teachers or from certain subject teachers. If you believe they are the ones who would recommend you the best or know you the best, then they are the proper choices. If you have any interests or passions in humanities or arts, that’s better.

If you do want to be a STEM major, that does change the ball game up a little. I’m not saying that it would hurt you or anything. It’s just that a lot of times, it is recommended that you ask for a letter from a teacher in the field you want to go in e.g. biology teacher for doctor, math teacher for accounting etc.

Actually, many top schools specify that the recs come from teachers in core subjects (English, mathematics. science, foreign language, history/social studies). If that’s the college’s recommendation, I would not submit an art teacher recommendation, unless it’s as a supplementary recommendation.

I agree with the above poster. I don’t think an art teacher is a great choice for a recommendation unless perhaps you are submitting a portfolio and going into the art field. Schools generally want core subject teachers. The art teacher can be an extra recommendation though.
