I'm wondering about teacher reccs... I plan to pursue art and history in uni. If history and art are my favourite subjects, where I know the teachers best, would it be appropriate to have those teachers write the reccs, even though they aren't maths or sciences teachers. Would it be appropriate to have 2 social science teachers write my reccs?

I’m going to say yes. I asked my best two teachers to write me recommendations - those who I thought knew me the best and in whose classes I thought I excelled the most throughout high school. Those classes were English and history - both social sciences. And I got into 2 ivies this year, so I think it’s perfectly fine not to have a math/science rec. good luck to you!

Ok thanks! What’s your opinion on the visual arts recc? Probably the teacher who knows me best…

I might recommend sending in the visual art rec as a supplemental rec, though I do know people who used elective teachers as recommendations and achieved good results (top LACs, Columbia, etc).

Sending in a visual arts rec sounds cool. It’s unique, and colleges probably don’t see too many of those, so I would go for it. It’s a good way to stand out. I don’t think it needs to be sent in as a supplement.

Ok thanks guys! I think I will go for it- If I send in a recc from my history and art teacher, they will get 2 very different sides of me, so I think that would hopefully be a positive thing.
