Teacher Recommendation Crisis!

I was looking over the stuff to send to colleges the other day and noticed my teachers didn’t sign the envelopes of their recommendations like I told them to! I told them to sign the part where it opens up, but I guess they forgot! What do I do now? I can’t contact any of them, as one left for the beach and the other went out of town.

Can I just stick some sort of seal on the envelopes to signify I haven’t tampered with them?

I’m freaking out right now. I can’t believe I didn’t notice this before! I’m SO stupid!

ask other teachers, I guess

Don't worry, it's no big deal. You can seal the envelopes if you like, but even if you don't, it will not significantly affect your file.

Now I've got two totally different answers. Can anyone help me clear things up?

I'm thinking of just putting tape across the envelope.... will that work?

Wait? We're supposed to get them to sign them?

Will the colleges not accept the recs if it isn't signed?

I sent in one of my recs.. and my teacher didn't sign across the envelope.

I'm pretty sure none of my envelopes are signed, and I don't know of anyone else who has asked for theirs to be...I think you're fine.

I work in the office of admission at my school (a top 25 LAC) and, frankly, no one gives a damn whether they're signed or not. The student assistants open the majority of the mail, the officers never see it. Plus, due to the sheer volume of mail we receive (and this is at a very small LAC, at that), it would be impossible to check every single rec. and make sure the envelope is signed. So stop worrying, and focus on getting your apps done if they aren't. The adcom does see that!

Well said, zeusviolin. It's amazing what people will find to freak out about....
