Hi, my junior son is lining up which teachers to ask for teacher recs for next year. He’s thinking about asking his APUSH teacher and Honors Spanish teacher. Is foreign language considered a core subject? He plans on minoring in Spanish language and culture so it makes sense in that regard. (and is a non-native speaker & fluent).
Thanks
Yes
I don’t have the “right answer” and I’m sure there’s some variability among colleges in how this is interpreted, but my kid did do what your kid is thinking: one from a true core (math/English/big sci/history) and one from a more “elective” social science because of applicability to intended major.
Yes.
May want to check if any colleges of possible interest want recommendations from teachers of specific subjects.
One of my DS’s was from his French teacher. He had very good results from highly selective schools.
Foreign language is a core.
My D22 asked for three letters of recommendation— one from a math teacher, one from an English teacher, and one from a Spanish teacher. She used the Spanish letter wherever a third letter was allowed only.
It is so hard to tell if/where the letters make a difference. She received acceptances with and without the third letter, so I don’t know.
