Teacher Recommendations on Common App

OK... so I am sort of familiar with Common App. I did a trial run with it last year, no hitches. However, this year something is eerily different.

Last year, to do teacher recommendations, all you had to do was send an email through the Common App and the teacher would send it right back to Common App. Essentially you barely had to get "involved" in the process.

This year, there is a message that displays: "For transcripts, school reports and teacher recommendations, your school is using Naviance eDocs. Please contact your counselor directly and they will provide instructions specific to your school regarding these documents. Once your counselor and teachers submit their school forms you will be able to view their status here." I've talked to my counselor who says my school is not using Naviance for anything but transcripts and so he has no idea what to do (we've met two or three times and neither of us has any idea) and has told me to provide the paperwork to my teachers and do it "the old-fashioned way." This requires mailing (as far as I know) to each individual school a good portion of time beforehand; and the way Stanford and UChicago sounded when I went to visit they reallllllllly don't like receiving hand-written work.

Does anyone know how it works this year or if I'm over-exaggerating the consequences? I'd really appreciate any feedback!

Thanks so much!

I’m bumping this… Still need help :P

go to your naviance account, click on colleges I am applying to - you will see at the bottom Teacher Recommendations - click on add/cancel requests. This will bring up the “Add new Requests” page. Click on the pull down menu under teacher. If you see names in there , that means those teachers have set up naviance account for recommendations and you can ask one or more of them. My son picked two teachers - one of them has this account and the other doesn’t. He will have to print out forms from commonapp and take them to the other teacher for him to fill out and mail using usps. This is not fun.

There is no “add/cancel recommendations option” on the page “colleges I am applying to,” even though there is the “teacher recommendations” portion on the page.

For anyone who may still be having trouble: my counselor figured out the issue between Naviance and Common App. Each teacher must create a Naviance account and submit their recommendation letter through Naviance. If that is not an option, then the forms must be mailed. Which is a pain.
