I've been looking at colleges recently and many require one teacher recommendation and one counselor recommendation. If I'm looking to major in Science, would it be really necessary t get a science teacher to write my recommendation. I am looking into Chem majors and I think my AP Chem teacher would write me a good rec, but I know that my English teacher would write me an AMAZING one as she knows me really well, we have a good relationship and told me she would love to write me a rec. My question is: If I'm looking to major in Chem, would I be at a disadvantage to not get my Chem teacher to write me a rec?
This is assuming that the college would like one recommendation not two.

Bump please!

I’d go with your English teacher. In my experience, it’s always better to have a rec. letter from a teacher who can talk about your character and personality as a whole and as someone who knows you than to get a teacher based solely on academics. Most schools do accept additional letter, however, so if you’re really torn between the two, sending in both wouldn’t be that huge a deal.

Thank you! Any other opinions?

I agree with Brianna on this one. Why not just send in both?

Go with eng. teacher until unless the college specifies…

Colleges know your choice of major can change – thus your underlying performance of a motivated scholar is what’s most important. This seems to be best conveyed by your Eng teacher.

When I applied to Ivies + top enginr schools, I had my Econ teacher and Bio teacher write me rec letters. Didn’t hurt me any
