Teacher Recommendations

I am planning on majoring in Computer Science and Business and am shooting for the top tier schools (HPYS, MIT, UPENN etc.) For my teacher recommendations, I've already asked my English and a science teacher. However, I don't believe I will get a strong recommendation from my science teacher (he liked me, but only had him for a semester), and I was wondering if it was worthwhile to ask my history teacher (who I feel would give me an above average rec). I plan on submitting my science teacher rec to some schools that require it (ex. MIT, columbia etc.)

1) Would it hurt my chances to submit two humanities recommendations even as applying as a primary CS/Engineering student?

2) Is it possible to pick and choose which recs you send to college? Ex. Can I send two humanity recs to one college using the common app, and a humanity and science rec to another college via common app?

MIT requires one to be math and science and many colleges strongly prefer it. Check out how schools want recs sent

tbh, high school teachers write so many recommendations that only a few will be truly exceptional. Think about the number of applicants * 3 letters…I don’t even understand why college admission needs recommendations, which certainly holds value for graduate school.

Go with the history teacher who will write you a better recommendation. Don’t worry about the subject.

I totally agree, recommendations are a pretty annoying process haha. Most schools use the common app, and I don’t really know how to use, so if someone who has actually tried using a combination of teacher recs replies, that’d be awesome for me and anyone else who is curious
