teacher recommendations

how many are we supposed to get from teachers? i have heard that it is recommended that we get two, but are we allowed to get more?

are we allowed to send more than two recommendations to universities? or is it limited at two?

also, about the classes we get the recs from. should they be classes that we did really well in? or should they be the classes that are very challenging?

also, about the teachers. what if you know that they're old or lazy, even though you were one of the top students and the class was challenging? would you recommend getting the rec?

Here’s what MIT recommends
[MIT Admissions: The Freshman Application](http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/apply/the_freshman_application/index.shtml#teacher)

Not every teacher can write a compelling rec for selective college admissions offices. Choose wisely.

Why do *you *think colleges ask for only two? If they wanted three, don’t you think they would ask for 3? They feel that two would sufficiently cover the expanse of their applicants’ classroom presence.
