I have developed very close relationships with most of my teachers, so my recommendations should be a strong point of my application.
What would colleges think about having three teacher recommendations [for four total, including my guidance counselor's].

I have a friend who is getting three I believe [one of which is from an art teacher, though... I don't know if that makes a difference]. So I was wondering if I could do the same.

The two teachers that will be writing recs for me as of now are very fond of me, so they should be great.

So I go for a third or is that over-doing it?

Read the college websites. Most ask ONLY for two -- the rationale is that a third voice rarely offers anything new.

Some schools ACTIVELY discourage more than 2 for this exact reason.

I can see a scenario where two teachers plus a coach or employer might write a supplemental note for you.

Also fondness isn't the criteria on which you should ask for a rec. Did you ACADEMICALLY perform well in the class and can the teacher succinctly give examples and anecdotes about you? If not, then get someone else. Really. Not all teachers write useful (to the adcoms) recommendations even if they are glowing.

I recruit at my HS alma mater, a rather prestigious school. My HYP adcom told me that the recs that accompany the apps from the school have not been helpful much at all. Bleah! Without alumni writeups, little in-depth information was known about them.

Thanks for the response!
I didn't mean to suggest that fondness was the criteria... I have performed academically well in every subject [...except band], so I'd really be confident with any teacher writing my rec. I just prefer the ones I have chosen to do so. I think I'll be sticking with two recs. Seeing as how I still haven't gotten the paperwork in yet...
