Teacher Recs - Do they need to answer questions? Or is letter fine?

For like the Common App and Brown Teacher Recommendation forms....there is the usual stuff they need to fill out (name, little chart, etc.) But then they have like 3-4 questions they want to teacher to put long responses too....do my teachers have to do these or can they just opt to put a Letter of Rec instead?

Most teachers write up one rec for a student that covers the stuff asked in the common app as well as most college apps. They simply attach that to the recommendation form for each college that needs one. None of my kids' teachers answered any questions, and that was the policy of their schools. That's why these days it isn't such a big deal as to how many of these things they have to do as long as the student fills out much of the rec form info, provides a stamped addressed envelope. They just have to copy a master sheet with rec or print it off of their computer files, sign the rec form and maybe add some info like a phone number or e-mail, stick the forms into the given envelope, seal envelope and send off.
