teacher's recommendation from IB HL Theatre Class?

hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply ED for Wesleyan University which requires

two teacher recommendation letters.

But I just found out that in the admissions page it says:

"The Wesleyan admission committee wants to see two teacher recommendations...Wesleyan prefers that one teacher recommendation come from a Math or Science teacher, and the other come from an English or Social Studies teacher. While this is not required, we feel that this is the best representation of you as a student in different areas of the curriculum and shows your fit with the liberal arts education we offer...Music, art, or other elective instructors may write a recommendation for you, but they do not count as one of the two academic subject teacher recommendations."

So I've already got recommendation letters from

IB Math SL teacher

IB Theatre HL teacher

Am I screwed? Would IB Theatre HL teacher's recommendation letter considered as ART and would not be counted as one of the two academic subject ?

Please advise. Thanks!!

According to their rules, it doesn’t count. (Their ball, their rules.) But it could be the rare 3rd rec, especially if you are a theater major. They seem to indicate that that would be okay in any case.

I’d round up another rec that follows their rules, just to be safe. In your case, it means you need a SS/English teacher.

Theater will not count, you need to get another teacher LOR from a core subject. You can use the Theater for a supplemental LOR.

Also agree. What a theatre teacher writes is often not the sort of targeted info the adcoms need to see- about your academic drive and might. IF you hope to major in theatre, it can be valid, but not a replacement. Not for a competitive college.
