Teaching yourself Precalculus?

I would never have thought about doing this, but the teacher at my school is horrible. She is the only teacher in my SLC (Small Learning Community) who teaches PreCalculus. I currently have her for Algebra II and can say she is a bad teacher. Pretty much everybody guesses on the tests. I don't want to waste my time another year; so I would like to take AP Calculus AB next year with a better teacher in my SLC.

I know math is something you usually need an instructor for, so do you think this is possible? Anybody with experience doing this?

Advice on books or study tools to use?

Thanks!

Please, anybody?

I’d say it’s possible. My teacher’s great, but I barely listen to her other than to get the formulas. Even then I can just look in the book. Precalc is super easy though (at least for me, although I have the highest grade without really trying so it’s clearly a different case for me than for others) so you could probably pull it off, if you’re good at math as it is.

Its more than feasible. Precal is mainly trig functions and graphs. I dont think that anything in precalc is in AP calc. If you have any doubts, use khanacademy.com and then get use the precalc textbook that your school offers to get some problems done

Thaks for the encouragement AKShockwave and pascalprime!

@AKShockwave: I am pretty good, I got the highest grade in my Algebra 1 and Geometry classes. Thanks!

@pascalprime: Really? That would be great for me! Thanks for the link and advice!
