Tech vs. CNU vs. VCU for pre-law

I live in Virginia, and I’m planning on going to law school, and since my parents are pushing me to go to the cheaper of the schools I was accepted into, I’ve narrowed it down to Tech, CNU, and VCU. CNU and VCU offered me money (5k +2k study abroad for the commonwealth scholar honors/plp thing at CNU, and 3k at VCU.), but Tech isn’t substantially more expensive than the other schools because of that.

I know that Tech’s non-stem majors aren’t particularly renowned or as well-developed as ones like engineering or agriculture, and that VCU is more well known for pre-med and the arts, but would the advising and classes/quality of education at more well known, large research institution it would have more resources to help with that as opposed to what I could get at CNU? (I will say, however, that I’m not in the honors programs at VCU/Tech, but I would apply ASAP). I’ve also read a lot about people dropping CNU’s leadership and honors programs because of unnecessary stress from requirements, is that true?

(I know many people also decide not to go to law school later on too, but the other fields I’m interested in would still require at least a graduate education, (likely in a field like psychology/non-stem) so this would apply to that as well.)

Thanks in advance! I’m trying to make a decision this week, and I thought an outside opinion would be helpful!

I think you have accurately documented the strengths of each college. I don’t know that any have an advantage for pre-law over the others. The 3 colleges are quite different in size, location and vibe. I haven’t met many perspective students who liked all 3. My recommendation would be to attend the one you like the best.

The Honors program (and Presidential Leadership) are excellent for Honors. Let’s face it, if you can’t withstand the rigor of honors in college, it’s not looking for the pressure and rigor of law school which is like honors*10.
Since you’re not in Honors at VCU and it’s not substantially cheaper than VTech, I’d pick either college.
Is there any other college you were admitted to that would be within budget for your parents?

I was also admitted into Randolph Macon and it’s Honors Program with a scholarship that knocked it’s…rather hefty price tag down a lot. It would technically be the cheapest with the money they’re offering, but I hadn’t liked the school itself enough to really keep it in the running.

If you like VTech and CNU better, and both are affordable, it’s okay not to pix a slightly cheaper choice that’s not a good fit.
