Tech's social life

I'm accepted into GT's class of 2016, super happy XD
And I'm thinking whether I should live in dorm or live at home (I live in Suwanee so Tech is pretty near to my house).

Will you lack social life at Tech if you live at home instead of dorm?

Yeah - you meet a lot more people in the dorms than in class etc.

Thanxx for the reply.
Of course it’s more likely to meet more ppl at dorms.
I’m just wondering will your social life be non-existent if you decide to live at home (to save money)?..

How active is campus on weekends?

Personally I don’t attend GT, but I’ve been around the campus several times. It’s quite gloomy at times, well at least to me.

First, you realize that Suwanee to Midtown Atlanta will be at least 90 minutes each way during the work day, right? It’s very different than driving it on the weekends. Also, you’ll do it every day since you’ll want to be on campus to study / use a lab, etc. 7 days per week. Finally, keep in mind that a parking permit is $600+ per year.

Your social life is up to you, but you won’t have nearly the same experience as if you lived on campus or close to campus. You won’t meet as many people, and you’ll probably miss most of the social events on campus since they tend to take place late at night. Also, you won’t be able to rush. It would be one thing if you lived on campus a year, developed a circle of friends, then started commuting, but it’s very different to start off without that circle of friends.

You must visit during finals week.

Wait why wouldn’t I be able to rush?
It’s not like if I live at home, I will not make bond with any circle of friends.

You need to be on or near campus for events, like when you get called at 2 in the morning to come do something at the house.

It’s going to be very difficult. People don’t make friends in class, they make friends during social events outside of class, which are at night, on the weekends, and in dorms. I knew several people that lived at home their first year, and every single one of them severely regretted it.
