Television Cartoon FAVS

On a related note ( I hope I don’t get flagged…) I had to watch the Stooges on the sly—for some reason Mom was convinced that if I watched I would be forever be poking my sisters in the eyes, conking them on the head, etc. etc-------which NEVER happened, btw!

Sunday mornings were for pancakes and The Three Stooges (although not a cartoon, it should receive special dispensation). In honor of them, some of us have suggested a new acronym for the “tippy top” schools: SHYMP :grinning:

I just got back from my local ACME store and anvils were on back order but I was able to buy a thirty foot sling shot.

Beep Beep!!

It took me a couple of beats to get the reference, since ACME is a real-life grocery chain. I was wondering why I never see anvils in the Sunday circular.

I can certainly edit but I have not equated cartoons to comics!

Well I know a thing or two about comics and cartoons….

I wonder if that’s a language difference in regions similar to soda vs pop (and others). In areas I’ve lived the two aren’t interchangeable. Comics are the stills (comic books, comics in the paper, political comics, etc) or the word can be used for comedians. Cartoons are the TV or movie animated shows.

Anyone else live where comic can mean a TV/movie kid show?

I looked at all the lists and realized that thanks to my overseas childhood I never watched any cartoons at all. By the time we returned to the country in 1967 I was more interested in sleeping in on Saturday mornings.

My oldest son’s favorite cartoon was Sonic the Hedgehog.

Younger son liked Pokemon, but then liked Digimon even better. He still watches a lot of adult cartoon shows. I keep trying to like them, but I just can’t. (Star Trek Lower Decks, Bojack Horseman and others.) We’ve also tried a few anime series over the years. Nope. Never liked Disney much either.

Family Guy visited several college campuses including Harvard and Brown…

George of the Jungle (watch out for that tree!!).

Is it Family Guy that takes place in the fictional town of Quahog, RI? If so, visiting Brown and Harvard would be a very short car ride.

Indeed it is. Seth Macfarlane is a RISD grad so very familiar with RI and Providence in particular (he is from CT.)

Both the Simpsons and Family Guys writing staffs have included writers from both schools. In the case of The Simpson Otto (the stoner bus driver) and FG’s Brian (the failed writer dog) are Brown alum. Reputed to have been a bit of self deprecation.

Otto went to Brown? Wow.

ETA: Indeed he did.

Like someone upthread, I enjoyed sitcoms more than cartoons. But I did like the Flintstones, Jetsons and Underdog. I hated Three Stooges.

Watched Captain Kangaroo every morning before school. It was the first thing in the morning for me. Kind of like coffee and Wordle now.

Well…for TV…The Jetsons. I’m still waiting for my flying car.

Jane Jetson must have known that we’d all be wearing masks and doing zoom calls for covid.

I don’t see a limit on the timeframe, so, for myself and at least one kid, Futurama. For me, all kids, and all grandkids, Bluey.

Hands down, Scooby Doo (the original - sorry Scrappy).

I don’t remember loving cartoons when I was a kid, but probably The Jetsons. When I was in high school, I remember being convinced watching Tom and Jerry caused the two kids I babysat for after school to act just like them, running all over the place.

I have lots of fond memories of my son’s favorite cartoons.
His top favorite was definitely Arthur.
He also loved SpongeBob, Fairly Odd Parents, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
