tell me about the city..

i've recently been accepted to gwu this thursday. i'm very excited to attend the accepted students day and learn more about the school. i'm currently weighing out the possibilities of me attending either gwu or a small liberal arts school in my area, lafayette. could anyone tell me about the city life of dc? is there a night life? concerts? anything outside of the political spectrum?

Oh my gosh, where do I begin? DC is amazing. There's so much going on, in Foggy Bottom or in DC. Foggy Bottom is a few blocks or a short walk from Georetown(not the university but the neighborhood). Georgetown U is at the other end of Georgetown, and almost immediately after leaving Georgetown, you are in Foggy Bottom(GW's neighborhood). It's a great neighborhood with a ton of young people from all the DC schools, along with grad students and interns. There's so many cool shops, eateries, restaurants, and bars all over DC. DC is only enhanced by the political spectrum. There's great theatres, clubs, etc. DC is also a beautiful city. The government building are Classical looking and really add to the aesthetics. The Cherry Blossoms in the spring line the sidewalks, and a nice open space of greenery lies in GW's center(Kogan Plaza). Many GW students jog around the mall and Washington Memorial at this nice time of the year. I love it!

DC is also great for sight-seeing. If you are interested in politics, then where better than DC? If you want journalism, GW has incredible professors with work experience in the broadcasting world. If you like Art history or Anthropology, then work at one of the many Smithsonians.

One neat thing about the location from my personal experience is being an intern at The Mexican Embassy. One time, my friend took me to the DC Zoo because she volunteers there. We fed the baby animals. It was so neat!

Hey Evan..where do you live? Lafayette is in my area, too, so we must both be stuck in the Lehigh Valley? :)

Don't live in the vern. It is so far from everything, if you talk to anyone from the vern their favorite street is 23rd and H. ;)

haha, yes i'm afraid i am stuck in the lehigh valley. i live in allentown. where abouts are you sizzles?

GWColonial--did you happen to be involved with one of the online chat sessions with GW students and GW applicants several months ago? During one of those sessions I remember talking with a current ESIA student who told me about their experiences working in the Mexican Embassy (at least I believe that was the nationality of the embassy). That wasn't you, was it?

Nope. I don't work in the admissions office.

Oh, ok-- sorry for the mix-up.
