^ I deem that a good dilemma. How are you going to decide, Disneyguy?

[/quote]
Eh, I'll probably just read them a few more times, let them simmer in my head for a few days (I'm doing the online app) and then randomly pick one after I have a mental breakdown trying to decide. :)

the thing is, no, i don't even think it's that bad overall... i just don't feel like i analyzed anything in it... haha. i was going to analyze the different types of freedom (i.e. freedom when there are no obstacles posed, versus freedom to act against obstacles posed).... and connect that to my problem, and i still might, but i am unsure ... and I don't know how well i would be able to articulate that. another thing i was considering was to analyze the implications of praise and encouragement, especially on children. hahaha. yeah, such weird topics. oh well.
how are you guys doing? I really hope we all get in and get to meet each other :P :P :P

Those actually sound really interesting! Good luck!

I have finished: Critnal, Conflict, Issue, and Book list
In progress (halfway written): Priorities and Future Plans

Then its revising, revising, revising!

i imagine i did what everyone else did with their conflict essay. that is, i pretty much vaguely discussed the concept of inner turmoil and conflict as it applies to me. only it's not even as good as that sounds. lol...

i'm a lot happier with my other essays. i wrote my critical analysis on Jack Kerouac's On the Road, which is, by the way, one of my favorite books and everyone should read it.

i just need to revise my essays... would anyone on here be interested in exchanging essays to give advice? or, actually, if there are any former TASP people here, would you care to look over my essays?

i've finished polishing everything except for the conflict. Do you think it'd be bad if I actually ended up submitting the one about diet coke..? would it seem too... trite a problem to write about? it'd probably be pretty weird. but since i do have friends who have had eating disorders, I could write about my experiences as I watched them go through it, and then connect that to diet coke. yeah. i dunno, any suggestions here? we still have a few more hours.
i could still analyze praise / expectation / encouragement....

now that i think about it, i could probably pull off so many analyses of conflicts ..... and i would probably write about them for fun if i had the time (like right, FINALS ARE THIS WEEK, STARTING TOMORROW, AHHH)...

I actually think the Diet Coke idea sounds sort of fascinating, as long as you're talking about it in the broader context of culture, etc. But maybe that's just me, since I'm attracted to the quirky weird stuff.

tommylamarre, check your PMs please!

I just found this thread and like whoa... so many people are applying to this program. I just sent in my application and I honestly did not put effort in it at all... My "essays" were like half a page... hahahaha I really didn't think people were putting in so much effort in this...

@crane: The diet coke idea sounds frivolous and doesn't provide any example of your maturity. And if Telluride checks cc or multiple people go with that idea (which isn't all that far fetched a suggestion) you'll make yourself look particularly unoriginal. Even if you have friends with eating disorders, deciding whether or not to consume an extra 200 calories is not a major conflict. That seems to trivialize the very nature of conflict and resolution.

i agree with applesandoranges. i mean, it's one thing to be "quirky" in these essays, as everyone keeps talking about. but it's another thing to deliberately choose the topic with the greatest quirk factor (which is a scientific term i have just created) at the expense of actual significance of the subject.

^ i agree. i though about doing that idea after i posted but i felt the smae way as apples and tommy.
i think it seems ignorant (not that you are in any way, this is just my feeling about the topic) to compare peoples life problems to a decision of sodas.

and - it wouldn't really be representative of you.
but good luck - my conflict essay sucks...should be working on that.

Good luck! I finished editing everything a few hours ago. But now I have piles of real homework to do.

it was more of a debate between analytical-ness and less analysis in essays. haha. i guess you do make a good point. :P

Conflict and Issue: Both nonexistent. No idea for the former, vague idea for the latter.
The rest: Done.
But the critnal: the most worthless piece of crap I've ever written. I fail. >.>

And I'm the slowest writer in the world. I can spend 4+ hours on an intro paragraph. Go me.

hmmm for my 'specific problem or topic' essay, I chose to explore the question 'what exactly makes speakers and audience members click?' i really like my essay, but i'm not sure if i did what i was supposed to do...what problems/topics are u guys writing about? am i supposed to pick something more important?

i think that just about any topic could be used if you have a genuine concern for it. I answered that question with an essay about humanity's disconnection from nature

(not sure yet) but tempted to do one on the decline of the quality of writing in the fantasy genre. if only because i enjoy bashing bad fantasy books full of cliches (read: eragon).

hahaha i read eragon too! definitely overwrought with cliches

@tommylamarre - i wouldn't mind exchange essays and getting input ^.^

I'm thinking I'm going to write my issue essay about "trusted computing." It's kind of a conspiracy theorist thing about how Microsoft and IBM will be able to control and limit what you do on your computer and how anti-competitive it is. I'm not sure if I sound like someone wearing a tinfoil-covered colander on my head though, and how they might feel about that. It's an interesting and relevant subject- it's one of those things that's happening now that'll screw people over ten years in the future because nobody cares about it enough now to get legislators involved... Does it sound too weird or crazy or political or anything?

Bleh!

I can't figure out how to shorten my problem essay, it sounds to research paperish also.

I actually like my conflict one, very personal yet kind of hurried sounding.

My lit analysis is recycled from school lol.

I'm halfway done with my hopes for the future one.....its horrible because i don't know what i'm talking about.

My preferences essay i wrote after i thought i was doomed because of the "reccomendation on the 15th" thing, so they're very brief and i don't really sound like i have a preference for any of them.

and my book list contains like 5 books.

earilmadith: i've heard of trusted computing. i think it could actually be a really interesting topic, especially if you consider its implications for society in general. a Big Brother sort of thing, maybe.
