Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2013

@Wolverines965 If I somehow manage to get an interview but am rejected I’m probably gonna put TASP finalist on college apps, since it’s good to even get that far.

@neontissues, I was considering writing about capital punishment being bad as well, but I changed my mind like the day before. My essays weren’t amazing, but I put my best effort into them so I can take comfort in that at least if I’m rejected.

Are any of you guys applying to any good backups? I want to do some sort of summer program this year, although I haven’t been able to find anything anywhere as good as TASP

RSI? SSP? HCSSiM?
They’re all math/engineering/science though…
I know j-Camp is pretty good for journalism…

J Camp is very good and highly selective.

Critical analysis- To Kill a Mockingbird

Problem in Field of Interest- I wanted to be original because I’m sure they read about the same 6-7 topics over and over again (poverty, animal rights, death penalty, etc), so I did a really weird essay about a certain teaching method that I find effective/interesting. In retrospect, it was a ridiculously awful essay, about a completely irrelevant topic. I think this essay is going to be what kills me.

Conflict- kind of a personal topic, probably my best essay.

Hopes and Dreams- I said that I was unsure but gave a couple of careers that I have thought about and an explanation of why I like those. Also told about a college that I want to go to because of a certain program that they have.

Preferences- 1234 was my order

Book list - It was only 7-8 books. I meant to add more/switch a few out at the end, but I totally forgot… so… I might have to reread some of the books I listed if I get picked for the interviews… (I went on a big reading spree a bit about a year ago, and I didn’t read them very thoroughly).

TASP is my only option, since my parents have already said they won’t pay for me to go to any really expensive summer thing.
I’ll probably end up volunteering or something over the summer.

Yeah, my horrible essays still depress me.

@OACLJV haha if only…is there anyone to call to find out how many applicants there actually were?

i’m pretty sure the applicant pool is still over 1000 for every year…perhaps this year CC was just lacking in juniors applying to overly competitive summer programs? also i mentioned reading a lot of fanfiction in my book list which was probably a bad idea in retrospect. oh well!

i also applied to bank of america student leaders which i think i did really well on for essays at least. it is even more competitive than TASP (~3% acceptance rate). i’m also hopefully finding a senator to apply to for the senate page program summer session.

I wrote my first essay about misogyny in The Social Network, my second essay about Doctor Who, and I only had like 4 or 5 books on my list. They said to only include the ones that I considered most significant, so I narrowed it down to the ones I could passionately rage about for more than two hours.

my crit analysis was about the script of Groundhog Day haha i LOVE that movie ~

my topic of interest was about sprituality v. religion (i live in utah so … a bit risky to pick this topic but well im passionate about it so i decided to give it a try)

my personal conflict was pretty mainstream but again im passionate abt my topic and i hope it shows in my writing ~ abt finding joy in learning …

my last essay i wrote about my indecisiveness haha  honestly dont know what i want to do in the future~ im just all-embracing

my book list has like almost 15 books 0__O well they are not even books cuz most of them are short stories and essays and one Vietnamese poem haha … i dont read books much :-ss

seminar ranking 1234 lol ~ but any seminar is great to me.

I feel like anyone that put the last seminar as #1 will automatically get it haha.

lololol we all put 1234 as our seminar ranking.

Haha I was paranoid that they’d think that I didn’t put enough thought into it if i said 1234 so i said 2134. What did you guys say in your essay the 4th one? did u still apply to it?

@prettylittleliar: what do you mean…“did u still apply to it”

Oh if you mean for the fourth seminar, I just said that ive been exposed to various forms of african american literature in school (ap lit and apush), that i have debated similar issues concerning the topic of that seminar in debate and that it would basically be interesting–which it would be, but just not as interesting as the other seminars. I only wrote like three paragraphs for that one lol. I “applied” to every seminar. Why would u not apply to every seminar…

For the 4th one I said that I didn’t want to attend if that’s what you mean by not applying to it. And I basically said that the seminar didn’t interest me, which is true. I wonder how many people actually wanted to go to that one…

For the 4th one, I basically said I wouldn’t want to go to it.

I said that my parents wouldn’t let me go to 4 if I wanted to. Which I don’t. Not a feminist. But I put almost 25 books on my list after much debate about what to put. Now I’m kinda worried about putting too many…but I cut my original list soo much :/

I put 2413, if I remember correctly. I actually would enjoy attending 4 mainly because I’m sort of a feminist. Not a crazy, bra-burning one, but I wrote my crit. analysis on feminist topics and was about to write the world problem on feminism too. I haven’t really seen it approached in this aspect, so it would be rather interesting. (:

I still cant get over the fact that we are only on page 23. I really wonder how many people actually applied lol. I read over my essays yesterday and im kinda impressed with how well they had turned out to be! One more month!
