Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2013

@stringpaper @Riverx1 one of the really useful things that I find is see how they sign the emails… if they sign their first name, then in your reply email you might as well just call them that way… my interviewer is a senior gentleman so I don’t really have a problem about that…
I don’t really know much about current events but I am not gonna pretend and learn about it. because I just don’t normally read world news.if that’s gonna stop me from being accepted into the program, well then I will just deal with that. (I have a set of my own beliefs regarding the so-called current affairs, etc, hahaha)

Did he tell you about himself haha? You don’t have to say specifics. I’m just curious if they did.
And I wouldnt worry to much about being knowledgeable on current events as long as you didn’t indicate that was one of your biggest interest or something haha…

I googled… my interviewer was relatively famous to the extent that he was actually googlable(creating words hahahahahaha)… so that helped.

Haha wow that’s actually pretty cool. I wonder when I’ll be contacted. Good luck with your interview!

I’m curious how fightingdaisy’s interview went…

Sent from my XT907 using CC

it was a pleasant conversation. I wouldn’t say I was at my best  But my interviewere was pretty laid back… The conversation was the most intellectual one that I’ve ever had in my entire life.

it was a great experience itself. We started with my conflict essay, and first I couldn’t really answer some of his questions, but at one point I became a little bit more convincing, i hope. :stuck_out_tongue: so that wasn’t tooo bad…
The discussion mainly revolved around my “topic of the interest” and some part of my “future” plan essay(because there is a common theme throughout these two. My literary analysis was probably strong. The professor said he couldn’t really understand the poem at first, but then understood it by reading my essay :D. So I can’t say that I am not proud.hehe. He had a few questions about the use of symbolisms in the poem and I think I explained them quite well…
I would probably say that my performance gradually improves as the discussion went on(which was 1.5 hrs incase you’re curious). It takes time for your mind to actually start thinking and functioning.haha.
There was only one interviewer and he didn’t take notes during our talking… but i assume he will write down reports based on his memory later?
Anyway now I really have my fingers crossed for TASP :D

Just had my interview yesterday! I think it went pretty well. I really like the way TASP does these things. For me it seemed a lot easier and more accurately representative of my skills than a conventional interview because it tested my actual thinking and articulation skills as opposed to how good I am at regurgitating what people want to hear.

Like others have said, it was definitely one of the most intellectual conversations I’ve ever had. (Also I only had one interviewer and he was a pretty nice guy, so that helped.) :)

That sounds exciting guys! I’ve been contacted for my interview, they said I should expect two to three interviewers. I still have a few weeks to go before it, but I can’t wait haha…a good intellectual conversation isn’t always easy to find around here…

it’s funny how little pages we’ve got. Previously by this point in time they have got like hundreds of hundres of posts!

I should probably unsubscribe to this thread. Much luck to all those who were interviewed! Enjoy TASP is you make it! :)

@fightingdaisy -

how formally were you dressed? I’ve never had an interview before and I was wondering how formal both you and your interviewer were dressed haha.

also how did you guys prepare for your interview???

@stringpaper I would suggest “business casual” or “smart casual” if this makes sense to you. I wore a sweater, a pair of dressy pants and flats. Meaning that if you are a guy, probably shirt + men trouser or some formal jeans will probably be okay too(no ripped jeans… i don’t think ties are necessary). For girls, I don’t think skirts are necessary unless you are just the “skirt” type. It also depends on the age and profession of your interviewer
also I just read and reread and analyzed and annotated my own essay as if it’s written by someone else… that’s pretty much all that I did.

ahh, alright, thanks so much daisy!

biting your nails? anyone? only 20 or so days left before we know!!

I still haven’t had my interview yet, but its coming up quick
I’ve been posting less here because when they sent us our finalist notification it said that we should limit our social media interaction with other people applying to or in TASP.
Haha for some reason I got the feeling they were talking specifically about this thread, and then I was like…not all is as it seems…we’re being watched.
But I hope everyone is doing great :)

oh yeah  i have been trying to be cautious too… i am definitely quitting once i get my final notification…

Had my interview yesterday. It was amazing!!
I also spent some time today on the Telluride House for Cornell’s site and it made me think…wow. This association is paying for the living expenses and education of 64 people, plus if any TASP alum matriculates at Cornell or UMich and successfully applies for housing in the Telluride House…wow. That’s ultimately tens of thousands of dollars. Talk about having faith in an organization’s mission, or perhaps more apt - the intellectual young people it serves. I’m hopeful and I think I want TASP more than anything, but regardless of what happens, we should all have infinite respect for these people.

Haha i know how you feel I’ve already spent lots of time on Tellurides Cornell house website and even emailed them about something, but yeah I completely agree with you. I really like the whole concept of Telluride and sort of just want to be associated with them in anyway :D
