Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2013

That’s my main concern…I didn’t apply anywhere else, no other plans. But it really is too late. Fingers crossed.

fffightingdaisy: Haha, totally true!

So what APs are everyone taking?

APUSH, Lang, Chem, Comparative Government, Calculus.

2 AP GOV 2 AP ENG and CAL BC

What do you mean by two Daisy?
haha, telling AP’s might identify us, but since we’ve already started haha…
after the results come in we should all probably stop posting though.

I’ll be taking
AP Psych
AP US history
AP US Gov
AP Comparative Gov
AP Lang Comp

Sent from my XT907 using CC

Yeah, agreed once we get final notification (eep), we should stop.

Everyone’s taking so many! I’m just doing Chemistry and Calculus BC (my school doesn’t offer many APs, so yeah).

@river I take the two gov classes, each per semester (so i will be taking both exams)
and in our school we don’t need to take AP ENG  All juniors can just take any Eng exams and on average people just get like 4 or 5.just a result of rigorous english curriculum…

@xquiksilverx it’s really not even the aps that matter… learn for the sake of learning, and exams for take care of themselves haha :P

Yeah, definitely. My school doesn’t offer too many APs but it has a more rigorous curriculum overall, and I’m happy with the amount I get to learn  Still, college credit is always useful!

Wow that’s an interesting system your school has there haha.

Do you guys know or think TASP wait lists people? I’m starting to feel like a rejection is probably coming my way…

Sent from my XT907 using CC

Yeah, basically xD

And oh, I read that TASP waitlists about 10 people per year, sorted by gender. Although I know waitlist is better than rejection, I feel like being waitlisted would be so painful.

Well right now I sort of want TASP more than I want to get into college, so wait list over rejection would be much preferred in terms of disappointment. I wonder how many kids get off the wait list…probably not more than one or two if any

Wait, sorted by gender? Does Tasp try to have an equal number of boys and girls? I wonder if that affects the competitiveness of it, like if its harder for boys or girls to get in, or equal.

Sent from my XT907 using CC

Aww, why do you think you’ll be rejected river? If you don’t, is there a chance for any of us?

Yeah, I believe they try to make it fairly equitable between boys and girls.

Yeah, TASP is almost always on my mind these days… I’m scared of being rejected too. :frowning:

I agree they probably try to balance gender but just looking at the brochures and stuff, I don’t think they try to make it exactly equal. This is pure speculation, but I think the gender splitting of the waitlist is so that if, say, a boy from Cornell I decides not to go, they’ll look at the list for a boy who wanted Cornell I. Total guesswork, though.

Well I really didn’t like my literary analysis essay, I waited way to late to start, I spent weeks on all my other essays and spent about a day on my analysis. Partially because I couldn’t even pick a book to read for it.

I love my other essays, and so I guess a large part of it is not knowing what sort of people TASP is looking for, or anything about the applicant pool.

And even though I really enjoyed my interview, I wonder if I should’ve asked more questions and whether that might’ve hurt me or not.

Sent from my XT907 using CC

Me too! I dreamed of getting rejection/wl one night =.=
@riverx i picked a poem instead of a book and that saved me some effort hahahahah

I feel like TASP isn’t so much as looking for a certain ‘type’ of person rather than just interesting, thoughtful people. I actually really liked my first two essays (although my interviewers didn’t seem like to like one of them, eep), and I feel kind of mehh about the others. I’m worried that my goals essay sounded insincere even though I genuinely meant it.

How many questions did you guys ask in interview? I only asked a couple so I hope that didn’t hurt me…

Man, maybe I shouldve picked a poem, its so much more open to interpretation and since its shorter you can focus a lot more on specific lines and metaphors.

And I think you’re probably right that they don’t look for a certain “type” but its easy to get intimidated by those perfect GPA, endless extra curriculars, perfect test scores sort of kids.

I can’t really think of a specific number that I asked throughout the interview, but when they asked if I had any questions at the end my mind went sort of blank

Haha why would you think your interviewer didn’t like one of your essays?

Sent from my XT907 using CC

I asked some questions about the general level of intellectual curiosity and work ethic of the participants(which was really what I was looking for). I also asked some questions about the social scenes(for god’s sake I just dislike drama of any sort…). My interviewer attended TASP very long ago so there was really no point in asking more…

Hey when you guys email telluride, haha well if you have emailed telluride, what address do you use?
I emailed Telluride@tellurideassociation.org a few days ago but I haven’t gotten a response, I don’t want to bother them if they just haven’t gotten around to it yet, but I’m worried that something went wrong sending it haha. They also have the Telluride@Cornell.edu address, but i haven’t tried that
