Does anyone know of summer programs similar to TASP (with deadlines that haven’t already passed)? It just hit me how much I want to attend a humanities-type program vs. how unlikely it is that I’ll get picked for TASP, so I feel like having other options would be a good idea lol
@elephantseal well next year, you could write a paper for MIT Inspire. It’s a great experience. I don’t know of any summer programs however . I feel you.
@CanisMajor Did you write a paper for MIT Inspire before? I wrote one this year- it’s nice meeting someone who also had an interest in it!
It was slightly a pain though, having to format a humanities paper as a research paper… still, it was an interesting experience.
Reading over my TASP application and realized what a hot mess of grammar mistakes and spelling errors I’ve made… hope admissions doesn’t count this against me.
what are some of you guys’ back-up plans for the summer?
This is a applicant from China. I was wondering how many people will make it to the interviews? Does any one know? On average, my essays left around 150 characters.
In 2012, there were 1350 applicants and 140 received an interview. 60 were then selected.
@drakonus I just co-wrote one this year for the economics division. it was fun and challenging.
Its prob gonna be a different number of applicants this year (either for the better or worse) because the PSAT changed so TASP sent emails based on the prior year’s PSAT.
@CanisMajor Most people who apply to TASP don’t do so because they hear of it through an email based on their PSAT score…so I don’t think that’s true
@jake071999 Actually, TASP mails (I think?) those who have a high PSAT percentage inviting them to participate
All that’s left is to wait!
@CanisMajor I co-wrote one for the music category-- it was really interesting!
So the 2015 TASPers got their interview email at the end of the first week of March so set your countdowns!
The interviews apparently ask you about your essays mostly.
How did you guys do on the PSAT anyway? I never got an email for TASP and i got a 205 last year and a 1500 this year
I also got a 1500 on the new PSAT and didn’t get a TASP email. Do you live in a competitive state? @CanisMajor
@supercilious New Jersey. Super competitive. Tied Highest PSAT cutoff for National Merit Scholarship
I live in Massachusetts. Makes sense, I guess—I’ve heard they email the top-scoring students in a particular geographic area.
Nah, I took the test in Michigan and I currently live in Illinois (so I’m not sure where they count that as) but I got 1500, which is waaay above the cutoff for both states. Still, they didn’t send me an email
Ugh my second essay was about how my faith in God acts as an impediment to my faith in destiny…do you think that’s too cliched? I feel like that might be what kills my app
@jake071999 if you argued your point well I don’t see how it could have hurt anything
