I just looked at my application status today and found out I was put on hold! I called the admissions office and they said that I would not receive a decision now and until April 1 ( the irony cause I really wanted this to be a joke).
It was a tossup getting accepted at the start for me because I didn’t really do as well as I should have through high school and didn’t prioritize. Long story short, I came out with a 2.8 GPA and a 1720 on my SATs (590 reading, 580 math, 550 writing).
My ec’s were 4 years of football and 3 years of bowling at a varsity level as well as all conference honors in football. Also did fundraisers throughout the year.
The thing I thought would help me most however, is that I would be a 4th generation legacy to attend temple.
So now, here is my question and why I didn’t just post this in the “chance me” section. Has anyone here had any experience being put on hold by Temple? Is there any statistics on the likelihood for Hold applicants getting in? Are my chances better? Worse? Should I start looking at other options?
I already got into Rowan University, but Temple was my first choice by far. Please tell me what my likelihood is now.
you certainly have respectable SAT scores. I can’t answer your questions specifically but i would write a letter about how you REALLY want to go to Temple, show upward trend in grades, if applicable, and see if you can get a couple of teachers(this can include coach) to write good letters of recomendation as to why they think you would do well at Temple, keep the grades up too and being that football season is over, that may be more doable in that you are not stretched as thin for time as you were in the fall. i would approach a hold as a “not a no” at this point and keep pressing in. i know of one Temple student who i heard was wait listed or put on hold so they are a current student who successfully overcame this barrier. i don’t know the family well enough to pry for more details about this though. regarding other options, are you willing to go to Rowan? are their schools in between Temple and Rowan on your preference meter? if so. apply to those other schools ASAP so you have more rather than less options. hope for the best now and take steps i’ve noted along with other good recomendations you get to increase your odds of getting in. also, if Temple does not accept you as a freshman, if you do well at another school, you can transfer to Temple at a later point.
I applied to other schools. Drexel is my second choice to Temple. I also applied to West Chester (waiting for decision), Monmouth (waiting), Umass (Stretch but waiting), Becker College (accepted), and Rowan of course (accepted). So I already have backups in place, Rowan University being my fourth choice, I wouldn’t be too thrilled but I understand if I don’t get into Temple I will have to live with it for at least 2 years.
you can transfer before 2 years. West Chester would not be bad, i don’t know enough on other schools to comment but i know several kids who went to West Chester and liked it, Be careful about the slum lords when you move off campus at WC though if you end up there. there are some pretty bad off campus options. and good luck!!!
