same, i randomly checked my portal and got accepted but no letter or anything
I actually just got the email and letter and got a ‘founder’s scholarship’ !
I wonder if it has to do with majors. My son is one of those getting more than we would have expected with his average stats. He had a good essay, I’m sure very good recommendations and strong extra curricular in music performance though he’s not going to major in music. But he applied as a “global studies” major which may be much less competitive these days than engineering, nursing, business and other stem? Just a guess.
Probably yes. Happy for your son.
Mt take is that the kids who slogged thru out their high school days, too deserve to be acknowledged with a decent bit of merit aid.
Just to be clear, my son has a learning difference and slogged through for his B’s in his AP and honors classes as much as anyone. Many other colleges were not even in the running for him because of his GPA. We have been researching for more than a year what schools would be likely to be both a good fit for him, accept him and be affordable for our situation. One thing for sure that I’ve learned during this process is that there are MANY schools for ALL students and the strategy is going both broad and deep. There are not many students who could navigate this process on their own if all of those criteria are important. I know for sure there are several wonderful options for every student on this thread. Good luck to every family.
That is awesome, that his effort is being rewarded. Good luck and best wishes for your son in his educational journey.
For my son, his status changed on the portal and a few days later he received an email and the letter was on his portal. There was also a separate letter for honors college. His scholarship was in the acceptance letter. A few weeks later he also received it in the mail.
Hey y’all, I got into the school of public health, my stats were…
GPA: 3.36uw/3.54w
SAT: 1470 (didn’t submit)
Many EC’s
Strong Essay
I also got the diamond scholarship (2k a year) and I took 7 AP’s total.
Why didn’t you submit a 1470? That’s likely why you got so little merit. You likely would have gotten more by submitting the SAT score.
I thought that temple had already considered my application, because I got this score in about December, so I think it was too late to submit it!
If it’s a top choice, submit and ask them to reconsider your merit award.
I still haven’t heard back and I applied in September. Does anyone know why this is happening?? I’m so close to just withdrawing my app this is ridiculous.
Withdrawing doesn’t help. Instead reach out to AO to see if they can provide outlook or if there are issues with application. From other thread, you indicated that you had been accepted to Pitt with scholarship, so you may not even considered Temple. However, Temple may come through with potential great scholarship in March since it is impossible to guess college admission process.
Unfortunately, it no longer is, I got into Drexel, which has a better ranked program for Public Health! So I might just go there!
I’ve reached out a few times and haven’t gotten a great answer. I’m just getting impatient but hopefully I’ll get my decision soon!
Temple is moving up my son’s list fast. He’s accepted as “global studies” major at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Any other LAS students here? We were not really looking for big schools. He’s got ADD with some executive function challenges. ideally he doesn’t just have the law-required accommodations in the classroom, but also a culture of support from advisors and mentors. That said he loves being in the city, wants an expansive not restrictive college experience, and if we can figure out the support piece it could be great. Anyone have deeper knowledge of these issues, particularly advising for liberal arts and sciences students?
I have heard wonderful things about Temple and accommodations from multiple friends with children with a variety of needs, including dyslexia and ADHD. I have also heard that Temple’s academic counseling is quite good. I believe that TU will be the most supportive of the schools my son is choosing between as an Engineering major (UDel, Drexel, Pitt and Temple) and is my favorite of his choices, despite the fact that it is not as highly ranked for Engineering, primarily due to its reputation for supportiveness. Good luck with your decision!
@BktoNJ I don’t have experience with the support piece (but I soon may as D is getting tested this week), but D was accepted into LAS. We are in state and Temple would be a commuter alternative for her. We’re local and she has applied to all LACs other than Temple.
I am a Temple alum. I graduated many decades ago, but I think the school’s strengths have remained the same - it has a diverse and vibrant culture. There is an energy on campus and in the city that would indeed create an expansive college experience. I’d be happy if D chose Temple b/c of finances or COVID uncertainty. Even though she wants small, I know she would fit right in and be happy. With such a large school, your S will certainly find his people.
Thank you so much. Encouraging and good luck to your family!
