Temple University Class of 2026 Discussion Thread

This is purely hypothetical, but, as spidermom03 noted, public universities tend to be a little more generous to oos students. There are a couple of reasons. The reason that sounds good on paper - because it increases demographic diversity at a state school that has to take “x” number of in state students. The only way you can brag about having kids from every state and multiple different countries in your brochures is to make sure they are in attendance. The most important reason to entice oos kids with extra money is economic. They need the money generated by oos tuition. You can say that it costs twice as much oos, but if $2,000 or $3,000 a year off that number gets an oos student to commit, you are still many thousands ahead for that student as opposed to an instate student. The coffers must be filled.

Did she submit a portfolio? Maybe it takes longer for a portfolio review. Good luck!

Thanks!

A little note for international students, before I got my decision today, yesterday the portal had a new tab asking for my visa info so I kinda knew if they’re asking for that, an acceptance is on the way, so if it happens to any of you international students, you’re probably in!!! Best of luck

Prospective Temple students and families - I beg you to learn and understand what is happening with violence around the campus and the inability of the school to deal with it, prior to committing. Temple is a great school in a horrible gun wracked homicide ridden neighborhood with very little policing. My son is a junior on campus and while he loves his program, it is not the environment or campus life we thought we were getting. There were 6 homicides over Thanksgiving weekend alone including a temple student, shot and killed, unloading his car after coming home from break. I cannot wait for my son to be done snd get the hell out of this city.

I agree with your take on Temple. I went there, lived in Philly for 30 years and told both my kids that they were not allowed to apply to Temple.
Obviously most kids survive the experience, but there are so many incidents it is ridiculous. Read the follow ups on some assault victims and your blood will run cold. I just don’t see it as a true college experience.

DS received his acceptance today (applied on 11/15) but it came somewhat innocuously in a letter that spoke about Temple’s academics with some “Admit” button on the bottom. Almost the kind of letter you lightly read (thankfully we read to the bottom). We were surprised there was no Congratulations or Check the Portal letter type letter. Still, delighted to have received an offer.

We got the email and then 2 weeks later got a lovely mail piece.

Update - the official email arrived a few hours afterwards.

Anyone still waiting to hear from Tyler for Architecture? My DD applied back in Sept and hasn’t heard anything yet.

Not Architecture, but D applied 8/3 for Nursing and hasn’t heard yet either.

Yes, my son applied for architecture as well…still haven’t heard anything yet

Has anyone gotten any scholarship yet? if yes, how does temple notify us of scholarships?

Admitted to Klein last week.
No merit as far as we know. 3.7 gpa so none expected.

I’m interested in this as well. DS was admitted over a month ago and still no word on merit aid. He is pretty high stats, so was expecting something, but who knows?

Same here. My son was admitted on 10/22, but no word yet about merit or honors college. The admissions page on Temple’s website notes that they will start looking at Honors College in December. I also saw a notation that merit will be awarded in the winter/spring. It’s my assumption that they just haven’t awarded any merit as of yet. My D applied to Temple 4 or 5 years ago with lower stats and was given a very nice merit award, so we’re thinking that some merit for my son is likely. Hopefully!

I called them about this sometime in late November (DS was admitted, I believe, in early November) and they told me nothing on that until February.
