Students who are heading to a particular college this fall won’t have much use for this list. If your child only rec’d gov’t loans, then your EFC is too high for a Pell grant. If you’re a PA resident and didn’t get a state grant, then is your income too high to qualify? If your child didn’t receive any merit from Temple, perhaps his stats weren’t high enough.

If you can’t afford this school (as it sounds) then he shouldn’t enroll just yet. He may need to start at a CC for two years, or take a gap year and reapply where he’d get merit scholarships. Getting merit scholarships when you’re ALREADY headed to a particular college is very hard (almost impossible) to get.

When did you fill out the Fafsa? If you completed it on time, and your income is low, you probably should have received some sort of grant money from the state, PHEAA or Pell grants. So I don’t know if your EFC was really high or if you have a lot of assets. If you made too much money the year before, prior to becoming disabled, they look at what you made from your

tax return, so not sure why you didnt get any assistance without really knowing further. You could try and call Temple Fin Aid, its a pain trying to get someone, but they should be able to answer some of your questions

Most middle income PA families with a student going to a college with a price similar to Temple should receive some PHEAA grants. It is easier to receive PHEAA grants than pell grants. However, you have to be sure to apply for them each year prior to the deadline. After you fill out the fafsa, they typically ask you if you want to go to the PHEAA site.

If you are out of state for Temple, I’d consider looking for a different college or doing community college for a year or two first.
