Temporarily submitting SIR?

Hey dudes, seeing as my choices have pretty much been reduced to two schools (UCSB and U of Oregon), and I have yet to decide which one, I have a question. U of O requires the SIR to be submitted by tomorrow but since I still am not sure which one I want to attend and don't want to loose my place there, so you guys know if it's ok to submit a positive SIR and then change it later??? Since I'm international I don't have to pay the fee. I just want to buy myself some time but don't want to get in trouble for accepting it now...only to decline in a couple of weeks. What do guys think?? Is anyone doing this for any of the UC's?

yeah you can change your SIR decision, the only thing that causes a problem for people is that the fee in nonrefundable but you don’t have to pay that so you are good :)

you shoud go for ucsb… I am too. and international

u of o drop it… ucsb is far better school

^^They’re actually equally as good…UCSB is slightly more prestigious is all…but U of O is giving me a scholarship so I have to consider all my options…

I don’t see it is equally good.
I know rank doesn’t tell u everything, but on u.s news, ucsb ranked 11
and u of o ranked 57

^oh I know that. But as far as my major goes, math, they rank the same almost everywhere. That’s really all that should matter…

thanks for your comment though :)

Once I heard following major ranking for undergraduate is not wise choice… For undergraduate you should follow total ranking… I am not against u of o or anything… Just saying… Are u Korean?

No, I am not Korean. I’m from South America. But yeah, it’s a sizable scholarship, so yeah…I have to consider it.

I’m assuming you’re korean?

ranking of your major is an appropriate measure to compare schools. The caution stated by admitmejesus is only based on individuals who are not committed to their major.

If you are unsure of your major, or might change your major, then the general ranking is useful. Having said that, both schools are strong and will prepare you similarly for post-grad education or the job market
