Sir 2011

Its about that time to submit your SIR's

I havent heard back from all the schools I've applied to yet, but I think i might SIR to UC Santa Barbara.

Where have you submitted and how easy was it?

It’s not even close to time to submit your SIR.

Unless you are 100% sure UCSB is your top choice and you don’t care at all if you get into any of the other schools you got into I would urge you not to SIR yet. There is NO advantage to submitting your SIR early.

As for the actual process you just click on the link to SIR and then pay 100 dollars, it’s as easy as can be.

Already SIR’d to UCSD on day 1.

You have until June 1st to SIR to a school – UCs anyway.

I didn’t get replies back from any of the schools I applied to lol.

Got into all the schools I heard back from so far: UCR, UCI, UCSB for various different majors

Waiting on: Davis, LA, Berkeley, and SD

Probably will end up SIRing to Davis or Santa Barbara but I’ll wait a while before deciding (i’m gonna go and visit each thoroughly) because I’m kinda wondering if I should go to SD if I get in.

I’ll be EXTREMELY happy if I get into Berkeley or LA but I most likely won’t SIR to either :(

I will send in my SIR once I hear back from all schools. Waiting on Davis (TAG), LA, and Cal. After I find out I’ll re-visit/visit each school and then make my decision. I’d actually love to be decided at this point but alas not every school releases decisions early. But that’s okay. I should be able to fit in everything I need to take care of in early May before finals.

Does it mean that if I SIR one school then I cannot SIR any other schools?

what’s the consequence of SIRing but not going?

Yes, you can only SIR to one school (SIRing to more will jeopardize your admission.) SIRing and not going to any school = losing $100.

What if you don’t have the $100 bucks? Yikes I didn’t know that.

^Then borrow it. You may also need some money for a housing deposit, which is required before financial aid is disbursed (at least at UCSD, but I suspect other UCs are similar). UCSD wants $650 for housing, IIRC.

Submitted my SIR to UCSB last Thursday. You have to pay $100, but my payment was deferred.

@ natjan, If you don’t have the $$$ you may be able to defer the payment. Good luck.

Oh sweet, thank you. I’m sure I could scrounge it up, it just caught me off guard. Thankfully I’m not moving into any housing. Deferred until financial aid rolls in?

^^^

I believe it said until September. The $100 will be added in with your tuition, etc. I think.

My $100 for UCI last year was due well before September. I think I paid it toward the end of April.

SIR’ed to Irvine today and even with an EFC=0, I wasn’t able to defer the $100 payment. I am really excited, especially after taking housing tours of the fancy new apartments on campus this afternoon…

Are you a low income student? Perhaps that has something to do with it. I’m sure I can hassle a family member or someone to fork it over.

It is a very exciting thought to pay and know I have a spot reserved at UC__! I can’t wait!

Sorry for the noob questions but:

What exactly do you do when you know where you’re going to SIR? And is $100 the only fee until later (when later o_o)?

UCIhopeful:

Ooooo which apartments did you tour? I wanted to move SO bad but I just cannot afford it.

@aninstance: Well somewhere on your portal/student page there should be a link to submit your SIR. You then accept all of the legal stuff and submit your credit card information. Unfortunately, if you plan to live on campus expect a couple of other fees to spring up. Just today for Irvine I had to pay a $150 on campus apartment “application fee” and will have to make a substantial deposit/first payment in July… $1000 bucks I didn’t plan into my budget.
