ten days left to decide! xavier or st. louis??

I have narrowed it down to these schools:
St. Louis University
Xavier University

I will give you a list of pros and cons that I have done. As you can see, they are pretty equal lists and I honestly CANNOT decide! Any insights would be appreciated!

Xavier is 3 hours away, St. Louis is 9 hours away from me
I am an only child and my parents are intimidating me with the "you will miss home soooo much if you go far away" guilt test.

I want to do pre-med or physical therapy, I haven't decided, but st. Louis is the only one who offers a physical therapy program.

St Louis has their own medical school if I decide to go into medicine, but Xavier has many options close by too

Xavier is smaller, perhaps more opportunities, but st. Louis has their own med school, which could provide opportunities too

I am in the honors program at Xavier, but didn't apply for st. Louis honors, but I could easily get in their program my second semester next year

st Louis has this social justice community club thing that I really like, and would be involved in but Xavier doesn't have anything like that

I am actually leaning toward st Louis, but my parents are concerned with the safety of the school being urban (but Xavier is urban too) and they also don't want me to go so far away.
please help me decide.

Both of these schools are pretty good, and I think either one would be good, one thing to consider is definitely the size and then I don’t know what political party you are but I have heard that St. Louis is more conservative vs. the other more liberal. I think you will miss your family being far away which can be hard but it will give you independence and after you graduate you will likely live far away so it might be nice to get a taste of it now… Anyways either school is great!

St Louis is more well-known. As long as you stay in the university area and don’t wander into the lesser-safe areas, you’ll be much safer.

As with anywhere, don’t travel alone at night.

I would not go to a place over having their own med school. But, the physical therapy program would be of interest. If you are serious about the PT, then go to St Louis. If not, go with the smaller, closer college where you can have more opportunities.

my parents keep telling me that I will have more opportunities at Xavier because it is smaller, but I keep thinking that I like St. Louis better…but then again it is so far away…ahhh my cycle of indecision!

More opportunities, meaning opportunities for what? Leadership, club involvement, research opportunities, class participation? What do they mean by that? I would imagine that you’d find plenty of “opportunities” at either school. I would argue that the slightly larger size of SLU might mean more possibilities for everything there!

Have you visited both schools?

As far as deciding between one or the other, let me put it this way: While you can be pre-med at either, you cannot be a PT major at Xavier. If you go to Xavier and then decide that PT is what you really want to do, you will have to transfer somewhere else to finish up your degree. So, I personally think St. Louis is the obvious choice! At this point, it gives you more flexibility and options that don’t seem available at Xavier! One caveat: I am assuming that you were admitted directly into the PT program there. If not, you may want to inquire about the likelihood of transferring into the program, as their answer might influence your decision.

I live really close to Xavier. St. Louis is a school I cannot comment on, because I have no idea. I will say this: Xavier is in a horrible area in Cincinnati, so do not allow that to be a deciding factor.

thanks for the help everyone!

It looks like St. Louis has a higher quality faculty. I would push both colleges for the actual 4 year grad rate. As you can see the vast majority of students graduate within 6 years, not 4.

Call the colleges and see if they will give you this number. Hope this helps!
