Ay-Carmaba or any other current students - First, I hope you had a nice break and are now ready to get back to the grindstone.

Are any of you participating in the tenting that's now going on? What about rush? I'd like to hear your perspectives on both events that are now about to be in full swing on the Duke campus. From what I've read, both events sound pretty crazy.

I'm not participating in tenting right now. I know a bunch of people that are, and they say it's fun. Coach K has already bought them pizza a couple times I'm pretty sure (at least once). Tenting has not reached it's peak, and won't until white tenting starts like a week before the game (Feb 9 vs. UNC). Do you want to know something specifically...

Recruiting/Rush is just getting started yet for fraternities. Every fraternity has different events and such. (I'm pretty sure I won't be doing it though). It started on the Monday (or Sunday?) before classes for sororities. I've heard that some of the girls can be pretty brutal and some girls end up crying and stuff. Overall I don't think it's like that though. Frat rushing is supposedly pretty fun though.

I'm tenting and it's been great so far. Actually right now I'm in my tent (good wireless from K-ville). I got here on Saturday the 8th for a few days of 'black tenting' (10 people at night 5 during the day 12 max per tent) and we just got in the top 10 tents. It's 'blue tenting' now (6 at night 1 during the day at all times) and because of the good weather, 41 tents were set up. The rest have to wait till 'white tenting' (2 at night 1 during the day at all times) to set up. They call random tent checks at any time to make sure that each tent has the right number of people. There's also call grace once and a while for horrible weather and Duke basketball games and once and a while when they're nice social grace on weekend nights. (Social grace just ended for tonight so I just got in and am stuck here till 2am till its officially night for 5 more people in my tent to come). Nights are 11pm-7am on weekdays and 2am-10am on weekends. K-ville is a constant party. It looks so cool when you see all the tents completely taking up the area in front of Cameron. The website for K-ville is http://www.dsg.duke.edu/kville.html. Check out the Basketball Admissions Policy for all the little details about tenting and getting into games. Ask away about tenting

I'm tenting and just finished rush for sororities.

Sorority rush is different from frat rush in that for us, it's one week jammed pack with interviews and primping and it's absolutely dry (for fear of it being a dirty rush). Frat rush lasts close to a month and it's just so CHILL according to my guy friends. My sorority is actually going to some of the frats' rush events tonight... but they range from going bowling, roller skating, playing lazer tag, playing basketball, to watching sports on tv while drinking beer and eating wings. This weekend a lot of frats are throwing crazy rush parties in off campus houses. A lot of frat rush events also revolve around sorority bid nights. For the week or two after sororities hand out bids, they'll have a huge party in a club or bar pretty much for the new members. Mine is on Wednesday, but I've heard insane things about how much fun they are. Rush isn't entirely about the partying (for girls that's definitely true)-- but it's a great way to meet new people... as trite as that sounds, it's really true.

Tenting is amazing. K-ville is a NON stop party during the weekends, and some weekend nights while tenting have been among my favorite nights of college. I mean, even if I'm sitting in my room, I still hear the tent check siren in my thoughts... and I did almost miss a tent check, but it's all good. You get used to sleeping in the cold, though. It's fun.

ah bluestar7, duke sounds amazing. i hope i get a "fat" envelope in the near future. Rush and tenting are def two things i'd love to partake in at duke. good luck with the rest of ur semester!
