tepper school of business

is tepper hard to get into? if it is then would it be better to transfer to tepper from H&SS?

I believe Tepper is one of the more difficult schools to get into (though not as tough as SCS, ECE and CFA). Apply to H&SS, Tepper, and as many as you have an interest in, each is one more chance. Hopefully you will get accepted to more than one so you have a choice. Transfer or double major if you need to.

Our experience has been that it’s difficult. DS was accepted RD into SCS two years ago, but rejected from Tepper. To elaborate on the point made by busdriver, S tried to minor at Tepper, but was unable to get into any of the basic business courses because of demand from the business majors. He finally did get in over the summer, but after taking two courses, decided business was not for him at this stage. What I’m saying is transferring into or double majoring also has scheduling hurdles (at least), and you may need some summer work to get into the business pipeline.

Tepper does have a high acceptance rate, but I’m a freshman there now. I didn’t have the highest grades or SAT scores, but I wrote a very good essay. It all depends on what you have to offer. HSS is definitely the easier school to get into, but you’ll have to wait a semester or in some cases a year before you transfer into Tepper, which could cause you problems with your required classes and credits.

thank you!

I am in Tepper right now. I got in as a Freshman. I think it has the lowest acceptance rate at CMU. It is MUCH EASIER to transfer into Tepper than to get in as a Freshman. I think you need like a 3.5 to transfer and some core classes. Good luck!

thanks!
if you don’t mind could you tell me how you did in high school?
like your gpa and sats.
I really want to get into cmu but I’m not sure if I actually have a chance…
