Hi all,
I was just accepted to Tepper and I am super excited, but I have heard a few things about the CMU workload that worries me. How hard is the work in comparison to that of say, CSC and CIT, and how much different is it than high school? I am going to major in finance btw. Thanks!

For business school standards it’s relatively high. Versus the people in CIT/CS/MCS it’s going to be a bit lighter. Don’t expect your non-Tepper friends to go out drinking with you on Thursdays, for example.

To get a better idea, around how many hours a week would a typical student have to spend/how is it compared to HS?

Just be glad you’ve been accepted to Tepper and not Arch Althought, that’s partly why I love architecture, the 24/7 workload in the studio :D

How it compares to high school completely depends on your high school. I went to a large public that I didn’t think was anything special, but after getting to CMU I realized it was considerably more work than what most of my friends had seen. I probably spent less time with “school” time stuff at CMU than high school, but a lot of that was because I didn’t have class from 7:15 until 2:45 followed by a few hours of homework every night.

I see, thanks for the answers! Another thing I have been wondering about is how is the social scene at CMU, especially between schools. I know that Tepper has a very small class (around 80 according to their website) and that’s better for individual attention, but I don’t want to be stuck hanging out with the same few guys for the next 4 years. Is it easy to meet people from other majors?
