Terrible Freshman grades... Do they count?

During the 2nd semester of my freshman year, I received a C in one of my classes.(The others all A's... so Gpa= 3.6)

How heavily does this affect my chances??

Colleges like an upward trend, so thats a positive, but they also hate when transcripts are blemished with the dreaded C.
No one can really say how it'll affect your chances.

I think if you've had only A's since freshman year, it shouldn't have much effect. I had a C+ and two A-'s my freshman year, and I still got in.

how about a D+ in freshman year.....i know its like a NEVER to alllyou students but.. please do reply anyways.

Do you know if the admissions officers are interested into why I received that terrible C? ( I have good reasons why...)

Stele did you have upward trends after that?

I had a B+ average my freshman year, but I slowly brought it up to an A-, A and then A+ during my junior year. Just don't mess up. They allow for one B and C here and there (Overall I think I had about 10+ Bs on my transcript), and I was deferred and made it regular action.

What'd you score in the SAT? What EC's did you have? Thanks.

Well, there's that certain website that you can go to and I have all my stats under the same username.

SAT I: 740V 800M (took only once)
ECs: Regional Director of Education and Comm. Affairs at my church and Co-Captain of my dragonboat team (those were like my major 2... it took up A LOT of time)...

yahooo: Yes, I did. Since freshman year, all of my grades have been A's.

how competitive are these schools and courses?

do they count the difficulty of the course (for most, a B in our Honors math course is a godsend)?. I ask because I think my class has about 2~3 kids with final grades of an A (out of 22), and yet we send upwards of 4 or 5 to Harvard every year.

Is my HS an anomly because its very competitive?

My school is nowhere near competitive. I'd say we're better known for our athletics than our academics.

Colleges usually have a profile of a school so that they know how easy the courses are, and thus, how easy it is to get an A.
