(Terrible GPA, No Extracurriculars, Decent SAT) What are my chances at Rutgers NB and Penn State?

Asian Male
No Extracurriculars
NJ resident (same state as rutgers)

Weighted GPA: 3.2
SAT- 2000

I know that colleges still care about the first half of senior year, If i get my act together what are my chances at Rutgers-New Brunswick and Penn State?

Wow thats really impressive that you scored a 2000 with a low gpa(its actually not that bad of a gpa). GPA isnt everything, but having no EC’s is something to worry about. If your a senior right now, i would say to join as many clubs as you can right now to get that up, also, I dont think that its possible for you not to have ANY EC’s. What do you do afterschool? What interests you? You can technically write down any activity that is considerable(doesnt have to be a club, sport, team, intern, work)

As for the SAT, that score will definitly be like a cushion for you(slightly), I think you will get into both universities if you find some EC’s to list/join. Your GPA could be raised by the time admissions are due, but not that much of a difference- dont sweat it. And btw, if you got a 2000 on ur first try at the SAT then you can definitly increase that and further increase ur chances! Good luck @anthem23

Rutgers uses a number system to admit people and I’m pretty sure you qualify easy. I would not worry about getting into Rutgers and you may have a little trouble at Penn, but again I think you’ll still be accepted

As long as you’re applying to the School of Arts & Sciences, and you’ve fulfilled the standard academic requirements, your chances at Rutgers are pretty good. My son got in (in-state) with a lower GPA and comparable SAT score. Penn State might be a little tougher.
