great essay/short answer/recs

my brother and sister are both child stars and, as a result, my parents are divorced (i live with my mom) and i am very often home alone for extended periods of time while they are shooting movies/tv shows or whatever. this was a big reason for my poor grades freshman and sophomore year. i dont know if this actually affects anything, but i think it at least makes me kinda unique.

applied to: syracuse (music), northeastern (music), drexel (music), tcnj (business), boston university (business)

The GPA is going to kill you, you have to remember that really they are basically only looking at 9th-11th grade in terms of grades. Northeaster, BU and Syracuse will be reaches, BU will be as well (a little bit less so), you have a decent shot at Drexel (match), sorry I can’t speak to TCNJ.

Boston University - Reach
Northeastern - Low Reach (Music isn’t a very competitive major there as far as admissions goes)
TCNJ - High Match
Syracuse - Match (I’m assuming music isn’t extremely competitive there)
Drexel - Low Match

Hopefully these aren’t the only colleges you’ve applied to or are going to apply to. You need some more matches and a safety.

Syracuse - reach
Northeastern - match
Drexel - match
TCNJ - reach
Boston University - reach

What did you write your essays about? If you wrote them about how your grades improved over time and the lessons you learned from it, it may have improved your chances. Have you gotten in anywhere already? What’s your safety?

yeah, i applied after their deadline and somehow still got in. are you from NJ?

my main essay was how i learned to play music to deal with my sibling’s acting careers when i was younger, which occupied my parents 99% of the time and also led them to get divorced. i think i did a really good job explaining my passion for music. the short answer was about my job at a movie theater, what ive gained there, and what ive learned from the different people i work with.

already got into rutgers nb, that was my safety.

I wish you luck. I think you have a chance with your improving trend. My son’s gpa was similar to your and he did get into like schools with lower test scores than yours. He had an improving trend as well which we did highlight.
