Freshman year I maintained a 3.1 both semesters. My sophomore year is coming to a close and first semester I did terrible with a GPA of 2.67. I am apart of a lot of ECs. My 3rd quarter grades were worse, but I was also going through a lot of personal issues at home. I have been working my butt off this last quarter, to get at least a 3.0. What can I do for these remaining years to at least get into CSULB, UCSB, or SFSU? Thanks!

For the UC system, you need a minimum GPA of 3.0 and even meeting the minimum your chances would be low for acceptance.
You would need a 4.0 GPA for Junior year with an equally impressive SAT/ACT for CSULB and SFSU to make up for the less than stellar grades Freshman and Sophomore year. You might want to consider, Cal State San Marcos, Channel Islands, Northridge and LA as possible schools.
Work your hardest this summer and Junior year.
Study and do very well on your SAT/ACT and keep up with your EC’s. Good luck

Counselors can explain situations like that, that’s what rec letters are for. As long as there is an upward trend, they can be easily swayed. As long as you do well next year and do well on SAT/ACT, I think you have a shot.
