Terrible grades: John Hopkins

Hey what's good everyone,

I want to attend JHU and I'm currently a junior in highschool. I'm going to give you my details and I want you guys to give me your opinion on whether or not I'll be able to get into JHU through early application.

My GPA freshman year was 2.83, and my GPA sophomore year was a 3.33. My junior year will most likely be around a 3.5. All my A's are in history and english, all my B's are in language and math.

I am an athlete, I broke school records set over a decade ago in Track (100m and 200m)

I have a passion to study medicine and to excel at it

I have attended Stanford summer college to study technological entrepreneurship

I am currently taking Harvard's CS50x computer science classes online

My hobby is photography and film, I spend several hours a week perfecting my skills

I've played piano for the last 11 years and I'm pretty good at it

I am very good with computers (heh I can type 147 words per minute)

I haven't taken my SAT yet, but realistically I see my score in between 2000-2200 (I scored a 1710 my freshman year)

I do 2 hours of community service a week

What do you guys think? Can I get into John Hopkins?

Doubtful unless that GPA puts you in the top 5% of your class

Do colleges only care about GPA?

No, but JHU is a reach for anyone.

its a reach

it’s a reach. you should look into schools like UC San Diego, UC Davis. These are fantastic institutions for pre-med. Don’t be set on one school, there are so many options. but let me just say this, my sister did not do too well in high school. strong EC’s. 1800 sat score. got into a very prestigious 6 year pharmacy program. sometimes i feel like it boils down to the essay and EC’s with some people.
chance back please.

John Hopkins is sort of unrealistic. GPA is one of the most important things in admissions, yes they look at things like ECs and rank, but only if the GPA and scores are there. Your GPA is lower then their averages/what is expected of a qualified applicant every year (including junior year which is the most important year). Sorry :(

I just checked my schools calendar and I have a representative of John Hopkins visiting my school on the 29th. I’ll speak to them afterwards, throw this info at them, and I’ll let all of you guys know what they said.

Maybe if you bring your GPA up. Schools look for upward GPA trends
