I sent my housing application for Berkeley way before the first deadline -- I wanted a double in either Unit 1, 2, or 3. Of course, I got thrown into a Clark Kerr triple. That's just lame! Any tips on what I could do to get a double in the units?

I've thought about living off campus, but I much rather live in a dorm. Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

Are you worried about the distance or the price? Because frankly a CKC triple is pretty decent - the rooms at CKC are HUGE. It's way different than a Unit 1/2/3 triple, which are basically tiny concrete boxes meant to hold mice that happen to barely fit three full-sized humans. But yes, CKC is rather far and it is pricier. But there's almost zero chance of you getting into a double in Units 1/2/3 because more and more of the rooms are now converted into triples in order to fit more students. Unless you get REALLY lucky and somebody in a Unit 1/2/3 double moves out and you find out about it soon enough, you probably won't be able to switch into a double. Sorry.

Just take it. I got a CK triple too. A year from now, you'll look back and just laugh at how miserably cramped it was, but you'll probably be glad you did it.

For what particular reasons do you not want a CKC triple? Biggest downside is price. Distance isn't too bad. Plus, you'll get H U G E rooms compared to the Units.
