Okay so I’m currently a senior in high school I’m failing English 12 and I have a June Regent coming up. I wanna graduate on time so badly but looking at my circumstances now I don’t even know if it’s possible anymore. I still have hope tho What should I do! Need advice.
Speak to your counselor at school ASAP. Ask him/her to mediate with the teacher. Go to extra help, hire a private tutor. You have to help yourself.
Between now and Tuesday:
- figure out why you’re failing English. Are you just not doing the reading? Turning in assignments on time? Studying for tests? And before you even consider typing the word, “Senioritis” is not a disease. It’s a choice.
- Sit down and make a list of every single homework/ project/assignment that's missing, and get it done by Tuesday. Teachers, and Senior teachers in particular, take no pleasure from failing kids. We know the importance of that diploma for your future. So get the work done that's needed to pass.
- Which Regents are you taking? Is it one that's needed for graduation?
You need to change how you are studying and GET HELP!!!

i am going to take Algebra 1
The Regents? OK, so it looks as though you need this Regents to graduate? Or have you already passed another-- probably the Geometry-- math Regents?
Have you taken it before? It’s kind of unusual to see a Senior needing this Regents.
The amazing reality is that you only need to get 15 multiple choice questions right to pass this exam. (Absolutely NOT what you aim for, but what you’ll need.) So get the Barrons Book and study like you’ve never studied before (when you’re not working on English.)
I suggest you focus the start of your studying on the following:
- Solving linear equations. (Equations without an exponent, with only one variable. Get x on one side by itself to solve)
- Factoring-- GCF, Diff of Squares, Trinomial with and without a leading coefficient, Factoring by grouping, factoring completely.
- Solving quadratic equations (Equations with x squared.) Set equal to zero, factor, set each factor equal to zero and solve.
- Working with polynomials-- combining like terms, FOIL, multiplying and dividing polynomials
- Translating from words to algebra
- Solving inequalities-- remember, when you mult or divide by a neg number, you flip the inequality
Get to extra help every single day-- either English or math in the morning and the reverse in the afternoon. Seriously, every other priority takes a back seat until you ensure graduation.
Good luck!
