test scores A SUPER worried sophmore

2012: PSAT scores(Freshman)
no studying
Math:60
Reading:55
Writing:54
Total:170
I recently recieved my 2013 psat score.
After studying Princeton Review(I got a 192 if I superscored the two practise tests.)
Math:64
Reading:50
Writing:60
Total:174
I am currently #2 in class out of 587 with 5.2ish weighted gpa, but cant seem to improve psat scores or test scores in general. With some students on this site improving from 140 to 193 to 210-225. I am wondering what my problem is.
Also, I just took my first act practice test using real act prep guide, a few weeks ago, and got a 27 composite(Is that good for an Ivy Looking Forward sophmore):
Math:31 Reading:29 English:25 Science: 24
As you can see my reading and english are alays flipflopping.
Taking act feb 8. What else should I do?

math as fresh 61*

I am a senior, and I was very similar. My sophomore PSAT only increased by 1 point form my freshman year (my writing dropped like 10 points while others increased). However, my junior year, my PSAT score increased by around 40 points with no studying, so honestly, I wouldn’t worry about it yet. You still have time. You have a very good score for a sophomore right now; you’ll be amazed how much you learn between now and the next time you take the PSAT, even if you don’t feel like you’re learning much. Good luck, and don’t stress about college yet! Enjoy your time in high school!

are my act scores any good though

Your ACT is very good for a sophomore. With a little more time and studying, you should be great! Just remember Ivys (and frankly most selective colleges) don’t look at just test scores; they consider the all-around person.

bumpity bump bump anyone else

My daughter’s scores went up a lot after sophomore year. First time taking the PSAT was good but not special. Now she’s 2 weeks away from being named a National Merit Finalist (fingers crossed). ACT composite in the mid 20s back then, as a senior it’s up to 34. Now is not the time to panic. Take it seriously, but don’t let it swallow your life.

Some people aren’t good at taking tests that well, but I’m sure it will improve by junior year as you take harder math and english

bumpity bump

bump someone else

I would recommend not super scoring PSAT practice tests, as the PSAT is not super scored. Also, download the SAT QOTD app if you have an iPhone or Android device, and make certain that you do it every single day. You’ll be surprised at how easy it becomes over time.

bumpity bump update

bump

Your scores do seem pretty low for someone with such a high class rank. But you’re only halfway through sophomore year. If you aren’t happy with your practice act tests, why are you even taking the act now? Sounds like you need to focus on studying instead of jumping poorly prepared into testing, testing, and more testing. You’ve only done 3 practice act’s, so it doesn’t sound like you’ve prepared much so I don’t understand why you are going to take that test–you do realize you don’t actually need to take these tests until you’re a junior? In fact, why take the act at all, if you are doing psat-sat? I can already predict you won’t be happy with the score and you’ll be back on here getting even more anxious.

Try to relax and work steadily on long-term prep. Go over everything you are getting wrong and make sure you understand how to do it right. Read quality material regularly. And make sure you are pacing yourself well–timing is very important in the sat.

Just do more practice tests over the Summer. You will see a gradual improvement. My D had a freshmen PSAT score just slightly higher than yours. She did many practice in the Summer after sophomore year and she became NMF in senior year.
