2012 PSAT scores

I am a sophomore in high school and I took the PSAT's this October. I got my score back a few days ago and I was wondering if they are good and if my scores indicate anything.
Critical Reading: 59
Math: 63
Writing: 58
Total: 180

Are these good for a sophomore? I really don't know.

(P.S. - this is my first post on this website so i don't really know how it works.)

For a sophomore, that’s really good! Most people on this website are like the top students in the country, so don’t let yourself get too intimidated. I had a score similar to yours when I was a sophomore (189) and my score improved by 34 this year (223), just through some practice tests. So, my advice would be to practice for the PSAT next year, since it does count in your junior year. Overall, good job, and prepare some more for next year!

lol i got almost same thing sophomore year
59 cr
65 m
57 writing
181 composite

they were at least in the 90 percentiles so thats pretty good

We live in Southern California and our guidance office says scores will be distributed tomorrow.

Sophomore year scores:

55 CR
68M
45W

Senior year

700CR
800M
800W

Freshman at harvard now.
There’s hope

Good job on your PSAT. No, these aren’t bad scores. However, there is definitely room to improve. The SAT/PSAT are just all about practice.

It means you are a smart kid. Great job! now, take some time to go over the questions you got wrong. Then, go over them again and again until you get them all right. Get an SAT practice book and do the same thing. You will rock the SAT in the spring of your junior year. Best of luck!

I’m a sophomore and my splits were:

68 CR (-6)
80 Math
75 Writing (-1)
Total: 223

Should I be confident for next year or still prepare really well?

You definitely still need to prepare. Not rigorously, but you can’t just let your beautiful score go to waste in junior year because of insufficient prep. Careless mistakes are easy to make, especially in math (which I should have scored higher in, but oh well ^_^)!
At this point though, you’re very strong-good job! Concentrate on bringing up that CR score-you’ll need the practice for reading comprehension tests in school, on AP exams, in the SAT etc.
As October 2013 gets closer I would take some practice PSATs so that you can keep your skills sharp. If you don’t already, sign up for the SAT Question of the Day. And since you’re a sophomore, you should be beginning prep for the real deal, the SATs and the APs, soon. That prep will also help your CR score, along with just plain ol’ reading! Sounds boring, I know, especially when it’s supposed to be classics and not ‘fun books,’ but oh well.
Good luck next year! :D

I got a 181 but my school only gives you 4 classes a semester so I only had algebra 1 when I took this plus I didn’t study at all. Oh well… I still have next hear  don’t sweat it. Get more math and English under your belt

Junior year
80 cr
73 m
70 wr
223 composite. I’m happy
last year I had 198, don’t remember section breakdown though

I got a 190 when I was a sophomore, but then I studied a lot in the summer and got:
CR: 73
Math: 76
Writing: 77
Total: 226
I think your scores are good for a sophomore, but still study study study!
Good luck!

Sophmore Year: 166 :/

Junior Year
CR (-9)
M (-6)
W (-3)
198; Much better! I’m kind of mad at the reading section so I’m going to focus on increasing math and writing for the SAT. Is there any way to score those last few points? My goal is 630, 800, and 800 (CR,M,W)

@notredameirish: oh my gosh, we got the same exact scores!! With the breakdown and everything!!
Sorry, I just got really excited that that happened. ^_^

where do I find my psat score???

@amberrocks your school should have them
