Does anyone have an opinion about how St. Andrew’s weights SSAT scores? I have a perfect transcript and tons of ECs (play the violin in 2 orchestras, sports and lots of community service). My interview went great and they were really encouraging. But…I am notoriously bad at high stakes testing. I even wrote about it in one of my essays. My scores on state assessments from my middle school are great but I totally tanked the reading section of the SSAT and my overall was a 2028 with a 58 percentile. My math score was much stronger but still not earth shattering. I’m wondering if I should give up hope.
Do you need financial aid? That makes a difference at most schools.
That would be low for St. Andrew’s but they have admitted people with scores significantly lower. In recent years they seem to be moving away from relying too much on standardized test scores, at least for certain applicants, but still the large majority of successful applicants are going to present SSAT scores above 70%.
If you need financial aid then those scores will most probably knock you out of contention. Whatever happens, good luck!
Is this the school where the AO submitted the dissertation on admissions criteria? If so, the OP can review the literature !
arent there two St Andrews?
Center is correct: There is the one in Delaware and there is another one in Florida. Though I am sure there are other prep schools with the name, these are the two with more regional/national reputations.
St. Andrew’s (DE) is the one most discussion here revolves around.
To the OP, if the rest of your app is solid and you bring other gifts to the school (like filling a needed seat in the orchestra), your scores might be fine. Obviously it would be better if they were higher. Speaking as a parent of a 2015 SAS (DE) grad.
It is the school in Delaware. Thank you for the information and encouragement. I’m a little anxious but i’m sure I’ll be happy at where ever I go to high school.
Apologies for the typing errors. Writing on a phone:)
Your scores are not outstanding, but should not discourage you from applying.
The SSAT upper is usually taken by a very competitive group and AO know this.
The school may find other qualities in you , just put your best effort into it.
Since music is you passion, engaging the music department might help.
Most importantly have a back up.
Good luck
I bet SAS will love the fact that you do music, sports, AND community service. Your grades and teacher recommendations Should reassure them that you can handle the academics. Good luck!
I was accepted!
