Thanks for all your help taffy, I am working to move up. By the way are you currently enrolled at WP?

Are their any military programs I can go into right now? My school doesn't have jrotc, so I am not really sure what to do since you said doing smp won't help and enlisting is not really what I would like to do.

Well, if you're a junior, apply to SLS today! I'm going to week 2 and I know of several other people on here attending. It may or may not make a difference, but it will give you an idea of whether you really want to go there.

there may be civil air patrol in your area, and doubtfully sea scouts. there will be plenty of time for military programs in college, but right now you need to get As and good SAT/ACT scores, with the leadership in ECs.

Ironjohn,

Keep taking the S.A.T.'s, My first try i got a 620 math score, five S.A.T.'s later I know have a 700. My verbal score started out at 620 and improved to a 650. It dosen't hurt to keep taking them.

Yeah. I got a 630 Math on the SAT I took in Dec. But after studying I expect to raise that hopefully up to 700+. You never know what you may be capable of. If you really want to go there, you'll find a way.

I am using march2success.com to help with act/sat scores too. It really helps because they have full practice tests and a free kaplan stuff.

kaplan sucks. get the collegeboard's official blue SAT book. Also, taking the real test is the best practice to me... I took it like 4 times I think.

ALright thanks, I am going to get that book now.

ironjohn:

First off, thank you for considering making the commitment to serve our great country.

Higher test scores are vital to improving your chances of an appointment. Here's a way to guarantee a 100 point improvement in your scores.

Treat the SAT's like a varsity sport and invest the daily time and effort you would put into a sport. Like Taffy, take the test as many times as you can. Find the test areas that are most difficult for you and focus on them. An hour or more a day commitment to SAT review may seem intense until you compare it to the hours each week that athletes put into a varsity sport. Reviewing SAT info and taking practice tests will be boring - especially when you do it alone. See if you can find an SAT buddy. Make a study chart and check each day as you complete your hour. Whenever you feel like skipping a day of SAT study, ask yourself how badly do you want to get into West Point?

Sound like overkill? Not if it makes the difference between getting into USMA.

As momoftwins points out, the low end of scores for the Class of 2009 are likely associated with recruited athletics, prior enlisted military and other special categories of candidates. If you don't fall into one of them, you will need to have stronger test scores.

Good luck and keep taking those practice tests.

Thats what I have been doing the past couple days, of my spring break that is.Taking an hour to study parts I don't understand and focusing on them. Since I missed the SAT in feb I will only be able to take it three times, but I suppose that should be enough, if I study the whole time.

I'd suggest taking the ACTs, too. Some people do much better on the ACTs than on the SATs and viceversa.

I do better on the SAT, my college awareness class showed me that. But then again I have taken two psats and one plan, sooo...

hey ironjoh1989, I am also from Omaha NE and I am some what familiar with the Nomination process and what not... so if you need any help with that, message me. Good luck bud.

Hey guys,

I picked up the official collegeboard SAT booklet, but also I bought the princeton review study guide, is it good? I have only read like 50 pages in it so far and it's pretty good stuff; besides the actual test prep it says its better than the official ACT book because it provides the most accurate test questions. Anyone had good experiences with this book?

i read some princeton review stuff and it was alright, kaplan was horrible, and i hear the collegeboard blue book is best.

Greubers is the most difficult practice booklet out of ALL!!! I Guarantee you... barrons is second hardest, and Collegeboard blue book is similar to what your real test will be like.

I forgot to mention the princeton review one is for the ACT!

hey, what are your swim times.

I'd rather not say I had a bad year, I got the flu in the middle of the season, and I just went downhill from there. 200fr is my main event, when I was improving my fastest was 2:05(converted from meter pool). Last year I went 2:00. I'm not that great, I'm sure every other swimmer on this website is mid to low 1:40s, even 1:30s. Our State record is 1:39 for the 200fr. THIS IS ALL IN YARDS BTW.
