Hi I'm john from new jersey and I started the application process for usma.. I am hispanic as well as residing in the NJ District 12..

This is how my resume looks like:
After this year I should rpughly have a 3.0-3.1 GPA

Leadership Activities

JROTC S-3 Officer ( 1 year)
Upcoming Battalion Commander 2013-2014
Upcoming Student Council Officer 2013-2014
Going to JCLC as a Platoon Leader
Boys State Delegate for June 2013

Sports

Drill Team (3 years)
Going to do wrestling the following year
Drill Team Commander 2012-2013

I took my SATs on June 1 and will take my ACT to June 8... my psat score was 140 sooo I was wondering with prep b4 the sat, could my score increase? I'll update any scores when I receive them

Your GPA is most likely too low for WP. And if your 140 PSAT transfers into a 1400 SAT, I’d think there’s an extremely small chance you’d get a nomination…I had a 3.8 UW GPA and ranked in the top 5% of my class, and didn’t even get an offer to go to the summer program.

Well wut was ur SAT score? How did the application process go for u? Send me a private message plz Ma school doesn’t rank so it don’t knw if it would go towards my favor or not…

GPA is indeed a big issue, as will be SAT/ACT scores if your PSAT is any indication. Have you taken many AP classes? Or even honors? Even if you have, low GPA doesn’t look good.

screw GPA. Every high school is in for an inflation business.
raise your class rank and college entrance exam scores (they make up about 60% of your cadet file at WP Admissions).
also, competitiveness of your district matters as well.
don’t listen to self-claimed pundits.
only YOU dictate your destiny.
do your best in your given situation.
if you just do that, then you’ll get an opportunity.

Leadership Activities
JROTC Member(3 years)
JROTC S-3 Officer ( 1 year)
Upcoming Battalion Commander 2013-2014 [may count]
Upcoming Student Council Officer 2013-2014
Going to JCLC as a Platoon Leader
Boys State Delegate for June 2013 [very good]
Squad Leader at Tri-Service Camp [if I were you, I would take this BS position out of the candidate file. it looks way too desperate to impress any admissions officer.]
Going to receive several awards from veteran organizations 2 weeks from now [I wouldn’t even bother mention these on a resume. means zero.]

Sports
Raider Team(3 years)
Drill Team (3 years)
Going to do wrestling the following year ← any chance of being the captain?
Drill Team Commander 2012-2013

^^ these. mean way less than being a captain of one or two varsity SPORTS. I am talking football, soccer, or any individual sport.

From my perspective, unless you get your file up to speed, you are too late to fight in this competition.

Don’t give up though. you can always reapply until the age of 23.

Well, I will be aiming for scores that high! What would be the scores needed to attend a civil prep school? Worst case scenario would be that I would attend NWP as a free agent in hopes of getting an appointment to USMA.

Leadership Potential

JROTC Member(3 years)
JROTC S-3 Operations and Training Officer ( 1 year)
Upcoming JROTC Battalion Commander 2013-2014

Volunteer

Participated in several parades

Started volunteering at Elijah’s Promise

SAT score : 1360/2400 ACT score : 22/36

Also, I am a potential student to enroll in the National Honor Society next year

dychang, actually my SAI mentioned that WP admissions was asking for our previous Battalion Commander who applied in March. Needless to say, she want appointed but it certainty was a boost.

I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but SAT/ACT scores do have to go up and without a strong class rank and college entrance exam scores, you are out of luck.
this is how the real world works. without them, extracurricular activities go down to trashcan.

if this still does not go through your mind/brain, PM me.

when I was in your shoes, I was obsessed with little things like you, but in post-CBT counseling, i found out that it was SAT/ACT that counted about 60% of your candidate score. remember that I did say BC position “may count.” pay attention to detail in this long admission process.

the reason why I am saying this is that under the current budget cut, West Point has to make the quota of 4400 cadets. currently there are about 4500~4600 cadets, and the number has to go down. This will lead to a decrease in number of entering class. What does it indicate? Weaklinks who were able to get in won’t be able to under the current Army.
This isn’t post 9-11, everyone let’s go, army anymore.

it’s probably good idea to start reading up on current issues in the army in case you are going to be asked during interviews.
