anyone get into GWU without submitting standardize test scores?
Yes. Several on this web site.
How was the rest of your application? What was your reason for not submitting if you don’t mind me asking. Did you go early decision?
@jackrabbit4
I am not an applicant. But I have seen others post saying they went test optional. Obviously you have to have good ECs to show who you are to GW or any test optional college.
Good Luck
@jackrabbit4
My daughter applied test optional and regular decision.
She was accepted to the Elliot School and the University Honors Program. She also received the Presidential Academic Scholarship.
She attended a full International Baccalaureate private school and applied to GWU with a 4.16 GPA (weighted).
She submitted excellent LOR’s
During her first communication with her University Honors Program advisor, they commented on the strength of her essays which is the main item used to determine admittance to the honors program.
Her EC’s included (a few):
State Senate/ House Page (six years)
Girls State (Won Nationalist Party
nomination)
Selected for Exploration @ Yale
University (foreign affairs focus
program and elected Secretary of
State by program)
Upper School Class President
Wellesley College Book Award Recipient
Two foreign exchange trips to France
Selected for a regional leadership in
program which led to a 3 year board
of directors position with a major
community youth organization
Member of a regional orchestra and
classically trained violinist. Her
orchestra recently played a debut
series at Carnegie Hall.
Model United Nations (four years)
Performing Arts: several musical, plays,
dance team, string ensemble and
choir.
Published articles regarding international
affairs issues.
When she was accepted she received three separate acceptance letters: one for the Elliott School, one for GW admission and one for the University Honors Program.
In speaking to the GWU admissions she was advised that the balance of the application must be very strong when applying test optional.
Hope this information helps.
@jackrabbit4 She was also accepted to American University’s School of International Service and the Global Scholars Program (3 year BA/MBA program). She applied test optional-regular decision.
@jackrabbit4 To answer your other question, she applied test optional because her scores were below the mid 50% range. Each time she spoke with admissions officer from either school, through visits to the college campuses or admissions officer visits to our school, they were highly impressed with all that she had done and the fact that she was passionate about what she was involved in.
One of the most peculiar things I noticed in watching kids post their decisions on the American University and GW decision threads was the fact that many kids with outstanding EC’s and very high near perfect SAT and ACT scores were either getting waitlisted or out right rejected.
I know students who had near perfect test scores, outstanding EC’s, essay’s and LOR’s but applied test optional and were accepted. Someone in their lives noticed the trend and acted on it.
American University, more so than GW, does not want to be seen as a safety school. If they believe that you will possibly gain admission to schools like Georgetown in the DC area or a more selective school, you could be waitlisted or out right rejected.
Then you have the other side. Kids who have outstanding applications, including high test scores getting excepted to American and GW but also gaining acceptance to schools like Georgetown Yale and like. Some of these kids actually post “well I don’t really want to go to GW or American I just wanted to see if I can get in…I’m heading to______ school”. They post this in the midst of watching other people anguish over not getting in.
