Is is possible? I intend to self-study calculus over the summer but if I have to take the class anyway I probably won't. I've heard that it's tougher/maybe-impossible to skip courses not related to your major, because, for example, your knowledge of intro biology will be tested in later courses anyway if you're a bio major (but a computer science major may never have to draw upon that knowledge again, so the school needs another way to make sure they learn it.)

Just take it… if you work hard you’ll come out with a higher GPA.

@kilnslice: From your prior posts it looks like you are skipping senior year and going directly into RPI?

While this may not be the answer you are looking for, would it be possible for you to stay in your high school and take a lot of AP courses? My son was able to get a full year’s credit from RPI for his APs. Since he went to public high school, it was like getting a year’s worth of college for free. (Of course the kid has decided to double major, so it’s very likely that we’re not actually saving any money because he may still be there for four years…)

One caveat – RPI capped the number of AP credits accepted to 32. He actually was eligible for 44 credits. But they let him choose which ones to use, so he was able to get out of a lot of institute requirements – most of his HASS courses and biology for example.
